I tried this new restaurant in Barrhaven for the first time yesterday. I am accustomed to Pili Pili on Dalhousie Street and found this chilled chicken with rice, plantains and salad comparable. I was given a new rice cooked with Scotch Bonnet peppers Free to try. It was delicious and as a spicy food lover may be biased. I found the chicken very flavorful with just the right amount of charring. Some of my family thought it was better than Pili Pili's but I will reserve judgment until another sampling. The plantains salad and rice were excellent. I will definitely be back for what I see is a good alternative to the "grilled" fare otherwise available in Ottawa. I would encourage Barrhavenites who enjoy a variety of foods to give them a try. I would also encourage the owners to create lunch specials to attract the huge, hungry labor force just a short distance away on Strandherd. For travelers who have experienced Jamaican jerk dishes this is a worthy...
Read moreI can't believe I like goat now!!! I'm half Jamaican and have never enjoyed goat. I've tried it so many times throughout life but finally, when I tried the suya goat from this restaurant I was blown away! Much tastier than beef, very flavorful and it has a really nice crispy texture on outside, yet still tender inside! How'd they do that?! I love it! Also the half chicken with jollof rice is amazingly tasty! The red sauce which comes with the chicken is so delicious and even though it's extremely spicy for me,I can't stop eating it! The rice is very spicey but also can't stop. The plantain is cooked perfectly, not oily like how I've had it at other places. It also helps take away some of the hot spice. The staff is very friendly and we met the cook who was also very friendly. I believe we have a new favorite place for take out and am super excited that we have this little gem in our...
Read moreTried Moyo for the first time tonight.
First off, the man who greeted me (also turned out to be the chef) was super friendly and a treat to deal with. He was more comfortable in French for those who parler! :)
Now the food. Abundant quantity and amazing flavours on everything. The chicken was more moist than it looked and there’s a nice little red sauce that turns it up a notch or two. The rice was bursting with flavours. The plantain was tasty. The one issue was with the goat. While very flavourful and the spiciest item we had, unfortunately it was mostly overcooked making it a little tough. The odd piece was perfect and showed how good this dish could be.
Given that they are new and everything else was good or better, I’ll cut them some slack and definitely give them...
