Rey Ray's has been on our radar since our move to Cobourg. We have been busy checking out other places and in September, La Tara & Rey (the owners) took some time off. So finally, on Friday we finally made it to Rey Ray’s to test their wares…and let me tell you… We have a problem. The tacos were great…I mean really, really good…like I would expect to get in Mexico on the side of the road at a shack next to the ocean... good. Shout out to Coconuts in Cozumel…

Back to our problem… they have Polenta Fries…and those Polenta Fries…well…they are simply the best corn thing I have ever shoved into my mouth. Period. I haven’t stopped thinking about those Polenta Fries. So my problem is…how do I even consider trying their other specialties…like Poutine? I mean…they’ve got to be good too…but how will I ever know?

Food is subjective…we should always remember that. What isn’t subjective is La Tara & Rey’s love of the food they make. Go on…stop by if you dare…get hooked like us.

See you soon Rey & La Tara (I really hope I have spelt that right…guess I should have asked)

Update for 2022...Yes, they still rock! Oh those...

My Boyfriend and I have tried to eat here several times coming at reasonable times (12-2) and haven’t been able to even try something because they’re always sold out. Today they were not completely sold out thought i was finally getting the chance to try it (i’m also vegan) and of course they’re sold out of tacos!! The most popular item on your menu you should over stock , working in a kitchen myself being a cook if we run out of something before close we are in BIG trouble .. i think they should re-evaluate their stock before opening (you would have more clientele and can do your staff a favour and feed them with left overs) whatever not my business but long story short could have much better business if they just...

The guy who runs it was super friendly, his tip jar was practically overflowing! He brought our order out to the car, neatly packaged. We were passing through port hope and decided to try it out and I didnt regret it. The fries are perfectly cooked, soft in the middle, crisp on the outside, and evenly salted. Hands down my favorite fries. They also have lots of healthy options. I got chicken tacos and they were fresh (like the fries), juicy, full of veggies, and wrapped in a fresh tortilla. The only downside is that it's cash only but it would be well worth pulling some out for it. Deserves...

A year+ later after our 1st visit, we have never been less than totally pleased with every offering. Be forewarned, they sell out & close early. We have been disappointed. Today we were targetting the shrimp taco special. Fortuitously we went early bird & snagged 2 of the last 3 orders available. These were exceptional. We had already decided if the shrimp tacos were sold out we would settle (😉) for the delicious fish tacos, a favourite. The chunky beet salad is a meal & very, very good. Sweetie & I previously shared, as a side with the fish tacos. Great (& I mean great) fries.👍👍

We stopped in for early dinner and heard some great reviews for this establishment. Friendly staff and great selection of Mexican style foods. We tried the fish tacos and quesadillas favourites. Made to order and everything is so fresh. Topping very fresh and everything is made in house. True value for what you pay which is better than fast food options. Can’t wait to visit and try the other taco options. Great seating outside and is cash only. Everything tasted amazing, great job everyone!
