I originally posted this review a week ago, but it never seemed to show up.

Two years ago, my friend directed my grandpa and I here for lunch. We ate outside, and we absolutely loved it. I gave a 5 star review, and I glowingly praised this establishment, its portions, its prices, its people and its food.

I don’t get to Port Hope often, but had to come out here today to visit family. I didn’t eat what they had, so I excitedly decided to stop at The Schnitzel Shack for an early supper. I couldn’t wait.

First off: the service was very good. There were people outside who greeted me, and were very friendly. It made me want to give them money more.

I ordered a sandwich and fries. I think it’s similar to what I got before. Then, I went out back to eat it under the eaves. It was raining.

Honestly? I was disappointed, especially after spending over $20.

I don’t know why, but the food just didn’t taste fresh. That’s the only way to put it.

The schnitzel tasted fresh in comparison to the bun, which wasn’t great by any means. I finished it, but didn’t finish all of my fries. I ate a lot of them, and didn’t say anything because I don’t like confrontation or upsetting people (not that I assume they would’ve been mean), but the fries got more bland and less fresh tasting as I went along.

I’m full, I got to stop at a favourite restaurant, but I expected more. I’m sorry for having...

Definitely the best schnitzel I’ve had. I think it’s a family based restaurant by the look of it. The people serving the food were kind and helpful. We were planning to order 2 dishes, the restaurant people advised the portion size is a lot for 2 people and refrain from ordering 2 plates. My god they were right. When the food was served in two plates (they were kind enough to break our meal into 2) I was surprised at the quantity. I asked them if it’s actually my order. Their smirk said it all. The schnitzel was tasty, the meat was juicy and tender. I had forgotten to order a pop, I walked back from my car and the sever was near the refrigerator ready to pick my drink. I can’t press enough how lovely the people running the place were… If ever I go crazy and crave for schnitzel, I wouldn’t think twice and drive from Orangeville to Port hope (185 kms), just to eat from the Schnitzel shack 😄 I definitely would recommend people to go check the restaurant...

We stopped here in Port Hope on our way home from Niagara Falls. We were tired of getting mediocre food at overpriced restaurants or getting overpriced takeout. We read reviews about the Schnitzel Shack & decided to check it out so we ordered two meals The portions were huge and one meal would have fed both of us. After a few bites we looked at each other & said we have to order two more to take home with us. The food was fantastic!! We knew there were a few things we couldn't get because of allergies, but the staff wanted to make sure the ingredients in the food were ok for us to eat. It took us by surprise because any restaurant we've ever been to never cared to ask us that. They were so very sweet, and truly cared about their customers. It will definitely be a place we return to frequently, even though it's an hour and a half away from home! Thank you so much for the great service and awesome food. We hope to see...

Growing up near Port Hope, I used to go to St. Anthony’s elementary and on lunch break, all the kids would walk to a little red shack down the street called Mother’s to get fries and gravy. Now that shack has turned into the awesome Schnitzel Shack and I couldn’t have been more excited re-live my youth! Pictures of the food won’t do this place justice! Just go, try it and you’ll see what the hype is about! Absolutely delicious in ever way! The schnitzel was so tender yet crispy, it was heavenly! Perfectly crisp fries! They also have some AMAZING gravy! I love a great rich beef gravy and this place has nailed it! Their prices are fantastic for how much food you get. Both my husband and myself couldn’t finish our meals because they really pack the box! They also have a really nice little dining patio to sit on surrounded by flowers. We will 100% be back to this lovely little gem!

We were headed up the 401 and needed a pitstop, a quick Google Search didn't identify any of your usual Chain Restaurants but then Schnitzel Shack appeared with 5 Star ratings. This amazing place with two lovely young ladies did not disappoint. Their cheerful and helpful demeanor confirmed we chose the right place. With their warning about the serving size disregarded😆 we ordered a Schnitzel Parm sandwich, a Schnitzel sandwich with frite sauce and a generous order of homemade fries. One word AMAZING! A massive tender and lightly crispy pork schnitzel had to be folded three times to fit on their fresh-baked bun. The taste is to die for! Their fresh-cut fries were a major treat. What is even more surprising was the value! So the next time you find yourself within 100 KMs of Port Hope, head to the Schnitzel Shack - they won't disappoint.
