I was excited to try Two Whales as I've driven past it numerous times while visiting Newfoundland. I made it in last week for the first time and was a little disappointed all due to the customer service (or lack thereof) The young lady serving me (take out order) was cold and unfriendly. She could not muster a smile in greeting (so unlike businesses in Newfoundland!) and when asked what she would recommend in terms of the pastries, she simply shrugged her shoulders. She prepared my order and simply plunked them down on the counter without an "enjoy" or "thank you for your business" (again so unlike the customary friendliness of this province). I observed her being curt with other customers as I meandered around looking at the art work. I purchased the book authored by the owners and in reading their lengthy and indepth Mission Statement, was surprised such behavior of staff would be tolerated. In speaking with my family from the area, I have heard my experience was not necessarily a one off. Others have also come away from this establishment feeling as though staff were judgemental or completely detached from providing customers with a pleasant experience. All that being said, despite disappointing and cool customer service, the food, latte and organic lemonade were quite delicious. I would recommend this place for the superb quality of food but would provide a warning that the staff interaction may be a little off putting. I will try Two Whales again on my next visit to Newfoundland with the hope it will be much...

Quaint, homey cafe located in a small cottage in Port Rexton. There is a vegetable patch behind the cafe and they grow their own vegetables. It seems family-run and staff are super friendly and welcoming.

The menu is fully vegetarian and there are many clearly labeled vegan options. I loved their soup, salad and sandwich combo (23$). Portions are very generous and filling. You can easily make modifications to the dishes and they make vegan coleslaw upon request. Their curry lentil pate sandwich and summer vegetable soup were delicious! Their drip coffee was quite good too.

They had an assortment of awesome-looking desserts but unfortunately only the date square and seed bar were vegan. I wish they offered some vegan cakes or pastries!

Two Whales is a MUST if you’re in the area. It’s a great place to stop for lunch before hiking the nearby Skerwink Trail - the most beautiful trail I hiked in...

We were a group of five , all had different paninis. The service was slow, 2 were completely finished their meal and the other 3 were still waiting for food for quite a while. The salads were 10 lettuce leaves with a hint of oil and vinegar, completely tasteless, the famous coleslaw was also tasteless. The paninis lacked everything, especially taste. We were expected to eat salads with a wooden spoon! Fingers worked better. The desserts were horrible, partridge berry brownie was oily and tasteless. The chocolate cake had a hint of chocolate but felt like you had coffee grounds in your mouth. The entire experience was horribly overpriced and you had to tip before you experienced any of this! We, a group of 5 from different parts of the island would not recommend this...

An absolutely adorable coffee shop just off the main road in Port Rexton. A homestead-style garden and hobby farm surrounds this traditional Newfoundland Saltbox-style home-turned coffee shop. The patio has great views of the ocean, and the interior offers 5-6 tables in a welcoming space. In addition to typical coffee shop expected drinks (coffees & teas), they offered locally made kombucha, gluten-free baked goods, and vegetarian options for sandwiches. There is also a small table with local crafts and books for purchase- this was a really nice touch! Washrooms are gender neutral and marked as accessible. There is a ramp leading up to the entrance, but you need to travel over gravel to get to the wooden ramp.

A delightful stop today at this coffee shop for lunch . As a vegetarian I appreciated the wide selection of choices in an eco friendly environment. I ordered a great latte and my husband had an Americano. The fresh lemonade was awesome . Panini choices were extensive with green salad and coleslaw although we missed out on the soup it was so popular. The panini bread was amazing! Charming outside areas to sit and co template your adventures. . I bought the history/cookbook with many vegan and vegetarian recipes as a great inspiration in Tasmania. Gift shop area with local gifts . Enjoyed the veggie garden and chatting to the free chickens afterwards. So pleased we stopped added a sparkle element to our day.

Great little coffee shop in Port Rexton. This is a must stop if you’re in the area or driving up towards Bonavista. Everything I’ve tried on the menu has been spectacular but the salted caramel brownie is out of this world. Probably the best latte I’ve had on the island. The breakfast and lunch sandwiches feature greens and ingredients from their back garden and are a nice change from the normal “50 shades of beige” Newfoundland deep fried food options. There’s plenty of seating inside and out, with a breathtaking view of the bay from almost every seat. You NEED to stop here!
