China Garden — Restaurant in Powassan

My family spent a few hundred here for a party. Was sadly disappointed. Family that lives here spoke so highly of this place, but I guess there’s been a change of owners since the last time they ordered.

Had some kids, vegetarians/vegans and picky eaters, so ordered lots of plain(!!) steamed vegetables and rice. Everything came smothered in sauce even though that wasn’t mentioned in the order.

All vegetable orders were also more onion than vegetables? I’ve never experienced this when ordering Chinese before.

Everyone complained there wasn’t enough chicken balls despite ordering a few boxes. Boxes were half empty. There was a passionate debate about how it was because there was less dough than before vs less number of balls.

Lemon chicken was bland and seemed old, like it had been sitting out all day even though it was eaten right away after picking up.

Everyone was disappointed withany sort of vegetable order… was basically just boxes of onion and celery.

Not sure if this is the norm but it wasn’t what I expected.

The rest of our order wasn’t “bad” but it wasn’t good either. “Bland” “chewy” “off” were common descriptors.

Well I am very disheartened by the new ownership. Ordered a big meal today at 4 pm to have ready by 600, it was ready at 630. Now It's understandable since it's Christmas but the food was not warm and needed to be microwaved. One of our items, chow mein was not in the order. In It's place was some bean sprout dish-hate bean sprouts. No point in calling to let them know of the error - we wouldn't have gotten the chow mein in time. There was more onion in the beef with broccoli dish (where was all the broccoli and beef?) There was only a small discernable amount of meats in the Singapore noodle and you actually needed glasses to find it. This was our second time ordering with the new owners - the last time, I noted hardly any meat or veg (except celery, celery and more celery in the Cantonese chow mein) and the food lacked flavour :(. All in all, very disappointing meal and makes us miss the previous owners and their fantastic foods. Sadly, we will need to find a...

Order was ready for pu and waitress friendly. The food was disappointing. Ordered garlic ribs and came like rib soup. Ribs were in a broth. Person who ordered did not like at all. Never seen ribs like that. There was only half a box of fried wonton. Usually there would be lots left over. Same with chicken balls..a half a box and the lemon chicken was like yesterday's leftover. They were very chewy and some were crunchy. No one was going for seconds. Ordered on a Thursday so maybe not busy enough to make fresh. Will probably head some where next...
