I have changed my review from 2 to 4.5 stars.
Recently (Friday 30 Aug) a group of colleagues and I arrived at Bricks and Barrel for a goodbye luncheon.
We were seated and brought water immediately.
I am thrilled to say that every issue I brought up in my original review (below) was not only addressed but corrected beyond my expectations.
I ordered the exact same thing as last time, and I was not disappointed whatsoever.
The Vegas Hangover burger ($21) was absolutely amazing. Next time, I would just ask for steak sauce on it, but that's also a personal preference. The egg was fried perfectly, and the meat was bang on.
Honestly, I could only eat half of it. It was a massive burger that I happily took home and devoured later in the day.
The kettle chips were assigned perfectly cooked. Zero complaints 👌
It was still a little cool inside for my liking, but I sleep with a comforter in summer, so don't make any decisions based on that!
Thank you for turning it around! I'll be happy to bring my family or come back for a date night.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I'd like to preface this review by saying I am very passionate about good food. I am almost always an easy going person when dealing with service staff. I know it's not an easy job. That said, if you ask my opinion, I am not shy about sharing it.
I arrived as part of a group of 5 today (26 Apr 24) for lunch. Our server was very nice, polite. No issues there.
The restaurant itself was clean, didn't use the restroom so I can't comment on that. It was, however, freezing cold inside. There were space heaters placed randomly around the dining area. Clientele seemed to be mainly elderly locals when we visited.
The menu had multiple comically bad spelling errors (spinch dip, appitizers, etc.), I likely could have overlooked them if there weren't so many. I know it's nitpicky, but attention to detail is important!
I requested a cup of tea (to try to warm up) and never received it. I ordered the Vegas Hangover Burger, but server accidentally ordered me a veggie burger. She corrected it once the error was noticed, but I didn't end up getting my burger until my group was almost finished eating. She was very apologetic and brought the kettle chips I ordered to hold me over until the burger came.
I was legitimately excited about this burger when I read the description. Especially with the over easy egg.
...and then I received it. It looked great. Presentation was on point, so stars for that.
The bun was not toasted, it was rock hard and felt more dehydrated/stale than anything. I couldn't bite through any part of the lower bun, the steak knife that came with the burger was barely able to cut through the lower bun.
The mushrooms were practically raw. I am not sure what the chef's idea of sautéed is, but it made me feel like Inigo Montoya, in that I am not entirely sure that word means what they think it means. The meat itself was flavourless, no seasoning whatsoever. The egg was delicious, and the kettle chips were tasty with some salt and pepper. Could not taste the onion or the chipotle mayo.
The staff seemed perplexed that this was my experience, because this is apparently a very popular burger. Perhaps the kitchen was having an off day, or were rushing due to having an incorrect order to begin with. I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt here. If it was not an off day, however, I would genuinely call the palates of their patrons into question.
I am actually appalled that I had to pay $21 and change for this travesty of a burger, though.
I absolutely do not recommend, and likely will not return...
Read moreWe were part of a large group. We had one waitress who was very nice but completely unable to handle a group that big by herself. They eventually had other servers assist her but it was very slow service and not super well organized.
Management had plenty of notice that we were coming and not a chance they shouldn't have had at least 2, probably 3 servers helping with our table for the duration of our visit. My first drink was fine but when I tried to order a second they were out of mix. Food, although tasty, came to the table minus anything but the wings on the plate. Nothing in the way of celery sticks or carrots despite having those items listed on the menu as being served with our wings. No dip for the wings came for either my husband's or my order. We asked for some and only one very small one was ever brought out. Another guest seated with us ordered a salad and was brought a plate of greenery with some chicken that appeared to be a chicken burger cut into pieces and had to send it back because the dressing was just a pool of oil on the bottom of the plate. She opted to get wings instead and was also brought a plate with no dip, no carrots etc. *picture shows how wings were served. Sorry for the lone eaten one. Food took a long time and we were starving.
Washrooms were pretty sad. Paper towels all over the floor. Water all over the counter and floor . No toilet paper on the dispenser however there was a almost half used roll on the back of the toilet which means washrooms not checked for awhile.
We all had separate bills which I realize is a bit more work for a server and ours seemed to be keeping track however, at the end of our visit another server stopped to tell us we would have to tell whoever was checking us out what we ordered because it was too confusing for the other gal to keep track of. This was our first visit here and had high hopes when we walked in and saw how nice the dining room was. Sadly our hopes were dashed. Note..the 3 stars for food is mainly due to presentation and lack of any effort by the kitchen to present the food in an...
Read moreWaiter spilled Pepsi all over my Fiancé... Didn't offer to clean it up.. but didn't charge drinks he spilt... 0/5
Today My Fiancé and I decided last minute to go to Brick and Barrel for dinner after a long day out of town. We were seated quickly and all was well, we ordered drinks to start.
When our drinks came, our waiter spilt the drinks and dumped a full Pepsi town my Fiancés front, pants, wool coat, white shoes, and the babies diaper bag was flooded with the remainder.
Our waiter apologized and came back with a dry cloth.. I repeat.. DRY cloth for us to clean up his mess. While we are cleaning up his mess, he decided it was a good time to take our order...
We did order, but minimal since we wanted to just leave at this point because we're already wanting to leave.
When the bill came... I was shocked to see there wasn't any compensation for spilled drink, embarrassment, lack of customer service, and dry cleaning needed..
I politely asked the server about this as I assumed it was a mistake.. but he let me know that he didn't charge us for the drinks he spilt.. Well Gee Thanks Mr...!
When we were walking out, the waiter said sorry again, when other servers asked what happened, they were laughing at my Fiancé as we were leaving.. Absolutely disgusted with the staff and this establishment.
FYI a fountain pop costs the restaurant about $0.04 - $0.06 for a 12oz drink.. and still paid the bill in full...
I will be calling management tomorrow and will update this with...
