Cantine La Grande Gueule — Restaurant in Saint-Alphonse-de-Granby

The cantine's location was used by many restaurant owners before, but this is the most beautiful use of it thus far! The food is tasty, the menu's choices are plentiful, the staff is most often welcoming, the workers are all skilled. I particularly love the bear with glasses logo, it has a lot of personality; the outdoors landscaping is muy bonito!

During the warm seasons, they kept an ice cream parlour, to my delight! Understand this: Saint-Alphonse-de-Granby had gone many years without a local restaurant and ice cream place ( not since the previous cantine closed; and the ice cream parlour connected to the gas station across the 139 was demolished to build the Ultramar), probably a decade, then the owners created this wonderful two-in-one; needless to say, it is very popular.

I gave them a bearberry plant to match the logo!...

It's not much to look at, but the food is excellent. Don't expect McDonald's or even Subway speed of service, because everything is prepared to order, no shortcuts here. A word about the subs, on the face of it they appear expensive. They're not, because they're large enough to serve two, and they come with an order of fries also large enough to serve two. We had what they call a Philly Cheese steak, and it's obvious that the owners have never been to Philly for the real thing. Not to worry, it's better. If you're on the road to or from Montreal looking for a place to lunch enter this spot...

Belle petite cantine avec un "marketing" je te trouve très cool! Un ours empaillé trône au milieu de la salle à manger!

Le service était bon et rapide. Cela semble être une restaurant familial.

Pour la poutine, nous avons le choix entre la sauce brune, le BBQ ou le mélange 50-50 des deux sauces!

La poutine est assez bonne, j'avoue. Elle ne perce pas le top 5 de mon circuit des poutine de "road trip" mais se trouve dans les 10 meilleures. (Janvier 2024)

Le fromage vient de La Chaudière et est en très bonne quantité. J'avoue que la sauce 50-50 fait ressortir la petite touche sucrée des frites cependant, j'aime mes frites beaucoup plus croustillantes. Le dosage de la sauce est parfait mais comme les frites sont déjà molles, avec la sauce, le temps de manger la poutine, les frites deviennent carrément mouillées.

Mais cela en vaut la peine pour le prix.
