Good Food with slow but entitled service less friendly to English speakers

We recently moved to the city and went here for a nice date night to enjoy our move. My wife is French and I am English but am learning French. During our dinner it felt like our service was less than others and was slow because we were an English table. The price and food was not worth the wait or the service. At the end the waiter asked why the tip wasn’t 15%.

We used OpenTable through google to make a reservation for the evening but since we submitted it after 5pm they did not have it (they only check the system at 5pm and do not update it after that so availability online is inaccurate). Without any issue they said they would find us a seat.

Once we got our seat the service was slow after our initial order of drinks. We noticed that our service was slower then other people in our area with the same waiter. This included my water glass being empty for half the meal with no refill. After the appetizer and before the entree the server provided a complimentary soup to both of us apologizing for the slow service. This conversation was directed at my wife in French only (no attempt to talk to me in French or English). After this the service did not get better which included the table behind us who arrived much later getting attention first.

Both our appetizers were delicious, the escargot and the pate. My tartar was good but a bit heavy on the mayo but the wife’s pasta just tasted like asparagus.

When I (not my wife) got the bill and did not tip 15% the waiter pointed out to my wife in French that the going rate was 15% tip. he then swore in French as he walked away when we did not change our tip.

Well, charging $16 for a 6 ounce and $22 (yes $22) for a 9 ounce glass of white wine (for the cheapest wines served by the glass) is outright ludicrous and insulting to say the least. There are way fancier restaurants in the Montreal region we visited - none came close to charge such abusive prices. The Octopus I ordered was OK but served with an ugly, slimly "black Squid ink" type sauce that made the food look unappetizing indeed. To top it all of, we were presented with (and initially paid before the amount was cancelled) the invoice of another client at twice the amount we owed. So no, this was not the experience we were looking for and we will definitely choose other restaurants in the area...

Nous sommes arrivés sur un coup de tête à L'imprévu 2.0 1ere fois pour mon amie, moi et mon conjoint.

Nous avons opté pour manger à l'intérieur, très beau décor, très chic et vraiment un endroit qui se démarque vu le secteur dans lequel il se trouve (bravo pour la décoration et l'ambiance).

Croûton sans gluten : très bonne idée pour les tartares.

Entrée d'escargots c'était incroyablement délicieux nous avons gratté le maximum de l'assiette tellement c'était bon.

Les moules, elles étaient bonnes malgré le fait que la sauce était un bouillon. Nous avons commencé par celles du fond afin d'avoir le goût du bouillon.

Plat de mon amie: bavette de boeuf(arrivée plus que tiède limite froide et la cuisson n'était pas super réussi) mais, le goût de la sauce était vraiment bonne. (Elle aurait apprécié un dédommagement vu la froideur de son assiette).

Assiette de mon conjoint: duo de tartare Le saumon ne goûtait pas du tout tant les ingrédients étaient trop présents en bouche. Et le tartare de boeuf sentait et goûtait vraiment que les câpres (qui quand c'est trop prononcé ça sent le gaz à briquet). Merci d'avoir chargé un entrée de tartare au lieu du duo.

Wow!!!! C'était tellement bon que j'en aurais mangé encore, encore et encore!!! La sauce et les pommes balançait le tout.

Désolée de le dire, pour mon amie et mon conjoint leur expériences n'étaient pas à la hauteur de la mienne. Pour eux un retour à L'imprévu 2.0 ne sera pas à prévoir mais, pour moi, clairement je vais revenir manger du foie de veau au lait.

Autre point négatif malheureusement, si vous n'avez pas les vins qui sont sur la carte des vins, faites une liste à l'ordinateur pour les vins du moment. 2 choix que nous avons fait que vous n'aviez pas. Je n'ai pas l'habitude de faire de si longue critique mais, tout ce qui est indiqué ici a déjà été discuté avec le restaurant. Ce ne sera pas une...
