Strange experience.
My mom and I were the only ones in the restaurant for almost our entire meal and the server couldn’t remember what we had ordered. About 5-10 mins after ordering she came back to our table to let me know she knew I wanted a side of consume, but didn’t know what it was ordered with? At the end of our meal we both went to pay separately and she couldn’t remember our main dishes, if we had drinks, or apps. I had to point on the menu three times to what I had ordered and she still tried to charge me for something more expensive. She also had a hard time answering questions about the items on the menu. Hopefully with some training this could be improved.
The limeade and hibiscus drinks are kept on the counter and are served room temp with a bit of ice, by the end of the drink it still wasn’t cold. Feels like this would be an easy fix, but weird to keep them on the counter at all.
The food was just ok, but wouldn’t bring me back. I tried one of my mom’s flautas and found the meat to be over cooked and dry, even with the added avocado and cheese (extra cost) it still didn’t have much flavour. I had pulled pork tacos which were very flavourful, but just meat on a tortilla with nothing else, which had me a bit confused and double checking the menu. This was probably my mistake as they do have 3 or 4 different style of tacos and I may have been more satisfied with another kind.
I’m just thankful the prices were reasonable.
Oh, atmosphere wise it’s cute, and I love that it’s family owned, but the one year old crying loudly next to our table just made the experience...
Read moreToday I went on a trip to Salisbury, New Brunswick and i just have to share about my amazing experience at Gaxiola Mexican Restaurant We walked in to see a beautiful portrait of Frida on the wall and a rainbow of colourful decorations hanging from the ceiling which just instantly made me happy. I looked at the menu and didn’t see much that would be vegan, so I asked the man at the counter. Turns out he is from Mexico and even though English isn’t his first language, he was willing to help me with enthusiasm where he pointed out options we could have and he asked questions to make sure he got it right. What an absolute pleasure to deal with! So sweet and friendly! My mother ordered the grated potato tacos (I’m sorry I can’t remember the proper name) which had pickled onion and avocado and I ordered the vegetariano sushi and the Jamaica (hibiscus drink). We enjoyed chatting with both owners and meeting their adorable baby boy, who gave me the cutest lil smile when I said hello. The food was absolutely gorgeous to look at and tasted even better! I tried the tacos first and they were flavourful, fresh and delicious! My mother is a self professed fussy eater and absolutely loved them and has been raving about them all evening! The sushi was just as delicious and the Jamaica was simply lovely! If you are visiting the Salisbury area, you MUST try this place! Authentic Mexican, a true family owned restaurant and they deserve so much success. You can feel the love! Thank you for making today so darn...
Read moreMy husband and I came in here today after seeing a food blogger rave about this place. We were so excited to try it and ordered the Tacos De Guisos (1 - potato, 1 - potato & beef, 1 - potato & chicken), a beef quesadilla and the chicken mole. Unfortunately, the food was tasteless - ALL OF IT - so sad because we really wanted to like this place. I will add that we love authentic Mexican food having tried it in numerous places, including Mexico, California, etc, so the cuisine is not new to us - the food at Gaxiola may be authentic but not delicious and I am glad we decided not to order dessert or bubble tea (an interesting option given this is a Mexican restaurant and does not fit the niche). At least I can say the atmosphere was unique for NB (nice to see culture and representation) and the service was friendly even though the server was nervous; placed my beef quesadilla on top of the napkin wrapper on the table vs clearing the debris; thought the mole was for another table (there were only two tables occupied at the time - how do you forget who ordered what when there are only two tables?); and spilled the taco de guisos sauce on the tacos (who likes drenched/soggy tacos?) as she walked over.
What an odd and passive aggressive response to my review - very sad the owners cannot take an...
