Canooligans' — Restaurant in Salmon Arm

Canooligan's is a welcome addition to our community, and proving itself to be the hub it desired for those who want a "neighbourhood hangout". It feels kinda like a dad's mancave at times, but that's part of the charm.

The best service in town, with the most eclectic AND fun cocktail menu, and a great selection for those who prefer their usual canned bevvies (there's enough in the fridges to rival some liquor stores).

There's also always something interesting on the taps beyond your normal expectations of a few craft brews and domestics. For example, I picked a handle based on it's appearance just to try something new and it ended up being a fancy cold-brew cocktail.

We weren't terribly impressed with the food our first time around when they opened, and the next couple times we were still trying to find something on the menu that we enjoyed... but as time has gone on it's been getting better each visit and the specials have been delicious the last couple visits! They've clearly made conscious efforts to adjust and improve on all fronts :)

What really kicks Canooligans off for me, and why we keep going back, is the staff. Everyone seems genuinely happy to be there, and it's clear they have a wonderful work environment and the formula is working.

They're also making a conscious effort to bring all sorts of entertainment to the area, and trying new things to really be a part of our community - and it's welcomed! Drag shows, concerts, karaoke, sunday Brunch, and...

Well we are nothing short of amazed. I will be honest the first time we went we were a little, I wouldn’t say disappointed but sceptical that we may not like it there. We only had drinks and saw the menu and thought what a crazy concept of doing things as well as thought are the portions going to be worth the cost. Then a couple times going and finally we decided to try the food (after a couple reviews saying it was small portions and not to their liking). Let me tell you… please do NOT be discouraged by others bad or slightly bad reviews. The food here is AMAZING. The portions are perfect or maybe even better for the price. 3 amazing tacos for $12… a double burger with all the fixings for $13 and a side of fries (wedges which I don’t normally like but these are way to good) for $5. I mean we go and get an incredible meal for $30 and are full by the end. We actually love the way it’s done with the pay for all first… that way when you’re done you’re not waiting for your bill and you can go anytime. We keep going back for more now as it is one of the best places to us. Please please give it a chance or two before you make a huge decision and a bad or not so great review!!!! Thank you Canooligans for all your great food, service and atmosphere. We will be coming again and again. Keep it up!

We stopped by for the first time this evening for dinner and we’re taken back at how the whole order and pay ahead of time idea worked. You pick a table, decide on your meal then go up to the bar to order and pay. This way seems to work well for them, however it doesn’t really allow you add to your bill without making multiple transaction, and the uncertainty of whether or not your table would still be there when you get back is unsettling especially if you don’t have a sweater or coat to leave on the chair.

Drink menu was larger then the food menu, however the food was delicious- the smash burger and grilled cheese chicken sandwich was so flavourful and the fries were perfectly balanced with spice and crisp. We tried the nitro root beer and nitro cream soda with our meals, which were delicious but had so much ice and very little soda- in my experience nitro infused drinks were never served with ice as it can change the flavour palette, but to each there own! Perhaps next time we will ask for no ice in our soda. There was also an H2O station to grab your own water which was nice. No need to pester one of the workers just for a water.

There was a band setting up to play however we didn’t get a chance to see them play. Great to see there is a local spot where one could enjoy a live band.
