Pinokkio — Restaurant in Shippagan

It wasn't our first choice, but it should have been.

Sarah, our hostess, was wonderful at keeping us updated on progress (we arrived in the middle of the rush). Pleasant, smiley, great at bussing tables without making you feel crowded or rushed.

Our server, Kass, was bright, bubbly, was able to answer any questions we had and quickly informed herself to answer questions she couldn't. Loved getting some background stories about the restaurant and inspirations for dishes. Top notch service.

The atmosphere was great, wonderful decor that felt classy without you needing to feel dressed to impress.

The food was absolutely wonderful. Fresh pasta cooked to perfection, seafood and sauce was top notch (we had crab arancini, the mussels, 2 oysters, carbonara and the smoked salmon pasta). I have lived in Montreal - an excellent foodie haven - for over a decade and a half, and this unassuming restaurant at the tip of the Acadian peninsula served me some of the best Italian food I have ever had - certainly better than anything I have had in Montreal.

If you feel strange going to eat Italian on the Canadian coast, don't. This restaurant is well worth the visit.

Pinokkio pizzeria is my favourite pizza place mmmm 😋 It’s worth going out of my way every time I can to go. I’m telling you I have to drive more than One hour to go eat at Pinokkio.

My favourite pizza is Funghi but others are really good. I can’t go there without eating their Escargots à la Pinokkio they are unreal. This weekend I tried the Pinokkio oyster Mmmmm delicious.

The staff and the atmosphere is always good. If you want the real experience I would suggest to ask to be sitting at the stove area. You can sit in that area and see how the cook is preparing the food and ask your questions about wood oven cooking

C’était ma première visite au restaurant Pinokkio. Je suis originaire de la région et j’avais entendu énormément de bons commentaires à son sujet, alors j’avais hâte d’en faire l’expérience.

Notre réservation était à 19h30. Notre groupe de 16 personnes est arrivé pile à l’heure et nous avons été immédiatement installés. Jusqu’ici, tout allait bien. Notre serveuse est venue prendre la commande des boissons environ cinq à sept minutes plus tard, ce qui était très correct.

Par la suite, nous avons attendu 30 minutes pour recevoir nos consommations. À ce moment-là, nous n’avions toujours pas commandé nos plats. Une fois les commandes prises, on nous a servi un petit amuse-bouche : du pain accompagné d’huile d’olive et de vinaigre balsamique. Un geste apprécié, mais assez banal. Avec un peu d’herbes ou de parmesan, ça aurait pu mieux mettre en appétit et donner un avant-goût plus raffiné du repas à venir.

Les entrées sont finalement arrivées à 21h15, suivies des plats principaux à 22h15. Je comprends que les soirs achalandés peuvent occasionner des délais, mais une attente aussi longue devient franchement frustrante. Peut-être que le restaurant devrait accepter moins de réservations s’il n’est pas en mesure de bien gérer le service.

Quant à la nourriture, elle était correcte, mais loin d’être mémorable. Les arancinis manquaient de goût, les doigts à l’ail n’avaient pratiquement pas de saveur d’ail, et la pizza au cornichon était recouverte d’huile. Dans un restaurant qui se décrit comme servant une cuisine italienne, ce genre de plat semble aller à l’encontre de l’esprit même de cette tradition culinaire.

Je tiens tout de même à souligner que notre serveuse a été très gentille tout au long du repas. On sentait qu’elle faisait de son mieux malgré la situation.

En résumé, l’expérience a été très décevante. Malgré le bon service, l’attente interminable et la qualité moyenne de la nourriture ne me donnent pas...
