Had first meal there tonight. Reservations needed. By 6PM next reservation was 8:30 and we took it. Love the atmosphere and old toasters. Unfortunately the noise level was extreme IMHO and we couldn’t really talk. On the plus side I think this place serves large groups well but I would rather not dine with them. We were sandwiched between two large groups. No one was unruly but it was loud. Unfortunately the server said right off They were out of the surf and turf which is what I wanted but they had the surf and turf fajitas which I got. Hubby got the burrito. We each ordered a different margarita and the mezcal IMHo was superior. By the time the margaritas came pre diner was right in its heal which was great and super fast. I was expecting a long wait based on the reviews and that was not the case for us. The food was amazing. Fresh. Perfectly seasoned to let the meat and shrimp shine and not overwhelm. The tortillas were homemade and piping hot and perfect. Well Portioned plates. Hot. Great flavor. The sour cream tastes from scratch! The sides were also great and taste from scratch. A nice light slaw. Nice salsa/avacado mix. Our Server was attentive and working hard. She answered all our questions. Did not make us feel rushed and did make us feel welcome and relaxed. Meals came out hot and delicious and while I was not super hungry I ate all of my fajitas. Refried beans added a little flavor but were unimportant to me. Definitely recommend and will return. Also it is a real fine dining experience. Stars off for noise level In atmosphere. One star off on service cause we asked for the check and waited and waited and finally got the server who said we could pay at the cashier. They don’t like to leave the check and make folks feel rushed even though we asked for the check. I think there was a miscommunication hineslry and we didn’t hear to see the cashier. But while not wanting the customer to feel rushed is valid, the opposite is not good either where we are waiting 10 minutes for a check that didn’t come. Maybe the server said that but neither of us heard? Possible. Since this method is a less common practice IMHO please make it clear this is the practice. Overall Minor quibbles. The food is the star and worth it. I think I met both owners working away and happy and pleasant. Do Make reservations. We were at end of tourism season and it was pretty busy on a Saturday night. Amazing gem in this part of the...
Read moreLet’s start from the beginning. Immediately after I walked in, I was not greeted. I was asked if I have a reservation. I said no as I looked around the restaurant and noticed half of the tables not filled. I was seated outside and shortly after the couple behind me (it’s a small place so everyone is close by) started smoking. I have not received my cutlery/ drink or order yet. I got up and walked back in to advise that I need to be moved to another spot as I can’t tolerate the smoking (as a woman who is starting a family- this is not a big ask, and I’m always polite/ friendly). I was asked if the bar is ok. It was, but note that “the bar” is 3 low bar stools that are 4 feet from the cash register/ staff one way and 4 feet from the front door. The food took much longer to arrive than it should have considering half of the restaurant was empty. The food was tasty enough for Stewart but lacked depth of flavour and authenticity. The drink I had is nothing like what you expect. I was actually surprised my server did not mention “their” version of a basic drink. I did not mention anything because I already have a bad taste in my mouth from the looks and service I am receiving.
The establishment looked not well kept and rather dirty.
ps: While I was waiting for my order - I heard one of the staff call me a derogatory term in Spanish to another employee (many people speak and or understand Spanish). This was superbly unprofessional and disgusting. Not one person asked me if my food was ok during my meal. I just kept to myself- paid and left. The cost of my food item was more than double what I would pay in the city. The non- alcoholic drink price was astronomical! Thank God- my employer has to pay for it- I would only pay these prices in a Michelin star restaurant. No one in Stewart will care about these reviews (there is like 400 people that live here and where are you going to go eat? There is what- 3 places to eat and two little grocery stores.
Oh, there is no phone number to call, no website and despite google telling you it’s open at day — lunch 12pm. It’s not. Hahaha.
To the people driving/riding through- keep on driving/ riding - there is nothing...
Read moreComing from Southern California, I know good quality Latin food when I taste it, and this was fantastic!. A family run business, and authentic approach to Latin food so far away from their origins, it was like a dream to taste familiar flavors.
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Seating available inside and outside. The decor is fascinating to view, as you peer through the history of museum like displays of toasters from antiques to almost bizarre models. The intriguing wonders allow you time to entertain yourself while you wait for your food.
Because everything is made to order, this is no fast food dinner. Expect a decent wait for good.
Ordered the prawn tacos: 4 tacos served with a house made space, on home made tortillas with melted cheese, pico, and cilantro.
Also ordered the Mahi Mahi Ceviche, solid chunks of Mahi Mahi in a delicious sauce also topped with fresh pico and cilantro. Served with organic corn chips.
They make a few drinks that will peek your interest. I ordered the Sangria. Smooth blend of Merlot, Lemonade, Ginger and Gin.
I'll definitely stop by when next, I...
