OMG, I never write reviews but I had the worst experience that I have ever had at the Clayton tonight so I had to let everybody know. Before I write this, I just want everyone to know that I have got everybody that I know to come to this place, I personally spend thousands of dollars here and ever since I introduced my coworkers to this place they come here every single weekend! We were supposed to have a girls night and my cousins came from Mission and Abbotsford to be here with us. My sister and I arrived at 7:15 and I had to ask for a menu to be brought to our table about 20 mins later. After this, I called upon the Asian bartender to ask whether we could have someone bring us drinks and the attitude that she had was CRAZY. She started going off on me and says “I’m only a bartender, it’s been super busy today so I’ll see what I can do about getting your table a server.” I was upset about the way she spoke to me but I didn’t say anything. Also, after she says this to me I see her serving food and drinks to three other tables. Then, the six other girls arrived at our table and they were sitting there for about 20 minutes. We were waiting for someone to come to take our drink order but nobody came. I asked THREE times (the table runner guy and a few other servers) but we did not have anybody come to serve us. I wanted somebody to tell me why every other table was being served except for our table. That asian bartender was a nightmare, not only did she yell at me but she also yelled at my sis in law (that one that came from Mission) and I was so embarrassed considering how much I always hype up the Clayton for everybody. I will just end by saying that we had to leave to go to Tap and Barrel in Willowbrook because even after me asking four times we could not get anybody to give us even water. I don’t know if this has something to do with racism or all these new servers but I am just SO sad about what my favourite neighbourhood establishment is turning in to. Even after all of this, my sis in law that came from Mission said maybe we can come on the weekend in the summer and sit on patio to see if we get better service. TBH after all of this and I never thought I would ever be saying this, but I don’t know if I would ever come back or recommend the Clayton to anybody EVER again and this is coming from someone that would recommend this place to anybody in a heartbeat. Honestly so so so so disappointed by everything that I went through tonight in an hour of just being here. If the owners have changed, please try harder and hire staff that don’t make people that have been coming to this establishment for many years feel like they are wasting their...
Read moreI lived in this neighbourhood for a year now but haven't had the chance to stop by here until yesterday Saturday 8th for brunch. My girlfriend and I decided to come here as we have heard good things and it was so close by. We came in and were seated right away. The server seemed stressed as she took a while to get our drink order but it was busy and we understood as we have both been servers ourselves. I ordered a ceasar and it came out fairly quickly. My girlfriend ordered the eggs benedict and I ordered the Clayton breakfadt with scrambled eggs and sourdough. It was the food that was the issue. It took more than 20 minutes for our food to come out but like I said, we understood and it was lunchtime on a Saturday. But my food came out wrong as I ordered scrambled eggs and they gave me over easy. I was too hungry to complain but waited 10 more minutes for the server to come by so I could ask for some jam. Another 15 minutes went by and I'm still waiting and she finally looked us and said she forgot. It was then I told her that I got the wrong eggs and she said I told her I said over easy. My girlfriend and I both told her that I never said that and she kept saying that I said over easy eggs. She was arguing with me! She finally said she would get me scrambled eggs. I told her it was way too late now as I was starving and she said Oh and walked away. I ate my cold breakfast and she was prompt on giving us the bill. No apologies. No attempt to get the manager to talk to us. Didn't even comp a drink. Nothing. I liked the place and I like the food. Probably better when it's hot but this server made the experience horrible. I'll probably try this place again at some point but not anytime soon.
Response to Owner: Thank you for replying so quickly. We came in on Saturday around 1:30 and was sat at the corner table just outside the doors going to the patio. It was the end corner table with the fire pit by the rails. Unfortunately, I did not get the server's name. My issue was not the time it took that we got our food late or that the service took awhile. We both know what it's like to be servers and knew we came in at a busy time. My issue was with the server who argued that I had ordered something else when I did not. Nor did she apologize for miscommunication or find a way to make things right. 15 minutes later, we got our bill. All we wanted was some acknowledment. She just didn't seem to care. It was busy and maybe she was having a bad day but this was our first time coming here and we were excited to try a new place. I was expecting things to be a...
Read moreI'm not usually one to write bad reviews, but after tonight's experience I've made an exception. We arrived tonight at 6:30pm and found a table inside the pub near the main entrance to the outside deck (more than visible to multiple staff). We (group of 4) sat down at the table and waited almost 20 minutes before anyone even made any acknowledgement towards us. Finally our server stopped by to drop off some menu's and took our drink order. Again, waited another 15 minutes before our drinks made an appearance. I'll admit my drink was actually not bad, probably not worth the $11, but still refreshing non the less. We were then informed that unfortunately they were out of the seafood platters (at 630pm...the main reason we came in)...disappointed, we took another look at the menus.....and settled on a second choice. At this point I ordered another drink.....which took another 15 to 20 minutes to arrive. 90 min after arriving our meals finally made a showing. I ordered a beef dip which was dry and lacked much of any flavor. My fries looked and tasted like what you would find laying in the bottom of a fryer that hasn't been cleaned in a few months.....to my surprise it tasted like the cook realized this and tried to hide it with an extra 2 or 50 shakes of salt. Hungry from a busy day at work, I choked it back anyway and ordered 1 more drink hoping the alcohol would somehow make my experience better (it didn't). My wife's meal was no better....a dried out and burnt chicken burger with the same salted fried remnants I encountered on my plate. My buddy tackled the fish and chips....which were nothing more than a battered oil sponge atop the now famous fries previously mentioned. He ended up sending his meal back as the oil drenched food would have made even the strongest stomach churn in pain. He settled for a club sandwich which at this point was probably the safest choice. After our meals we tried to relax and catch up....our server had all but disappeared....finally she checked back with us and we asked for our bills. When we received them they were mixed up which we informed her about and she quickly took them back to correct. They came back again wrong but at this point just paid them to finally end the near 3 hour experience. Like I said, I rarely post a bad review, and I'm honestly pretty tolerant when it comes to service and mediocre food...but tonight pretty much topped it for dropping the ball in every possible category. I can say for certain that I wont be back for a...
