I've been coming here for about 7 years and have always had extremely good service, so i'm not going to say anything negative about my experiences up till this point, nor am i going to give it less than the rating it deserves. A few weeks ago i called in to get my regular order that the head chef knows well, and the newer waitress was being a bit difficult about just telling the chef my name and letting the chef make it the same way he has been for all these years. I asked her to just ask him and she eventually did and everything was just fine.
Today I tried to order lunch again and I'm met with the same attitude only with extra resistance, and no matter how many times i tried to ask her to just ask the chef to make the same lunch he's been making me for 7 years, she would not do it without me specifying how it's made. I'm not even sure about all the details and toppings on the sandwich, the chef's been making it for me the identical way for me without me ever asking. Eventually I just told her to forget about it.
I'm not sure why someone taking orders has to maintain her stubbornness and not just turn around and ask the chef, but Railway Cafe lost a regular customer today. I might try again in a few months or years and hopefully there is someone who can take a simple request will be working...
Read moreStaff is lovely, super friendly and engaging. It's a small place and very busy. Clean and well looked after. Prices are a little higher than expected but nowadays, where aren't prices high? We shared a Beef Dip and Turkey Club with a side of onion rings, diet coke and gingerale. The Turkey Club was moist, juicy and with lots of bacon. Not the best I've ever eaten but, delicious nonetheless. The Beef Dip was good. It's more a flavorful beef gravy than an Au Jus so if your a tradionalist and prefer Au Jus, you're out of luck. The only thing I found lacking in the sandwich itself was a nice horseradish mayo or aioli. Because of that, it was a little fad and dry even with the flavorful gravy. The onion rings were great. Nicely battered and deep fried. They don't use the thick panko batter which we were happy about. All in all, we will likely go back and try some of their other dishes. Price for two with tip was under...
Read moreI'm at a loss for words. The staff, phenomenal. The vibe, typical diner-like. The location, little hard to get to but worth it. The food, drool worthy and delicious. The price, worth every penny as you never leave hungry and have some leftovers as well. Last time I came here, I had the beef dip with sautéd onions, garlic fries, horseradish mayo and gravy for dipping. Hands down one of the best meals I've ever had. The beef was juicy and tender, the bread soft and moist. Today I had the chicken strip with onion rings. The food wasn't salty and it was hot. Everything is made to order here so you're always guaranteed freshness. Also, do their monster Toffee chocolate cookie, it's to die for. You gotta eat...
