I always come to Ali's when I am in Temiskaming, I usually always get a steak because they are really good. This time I decided to get something different to see if the Quality is the same for all their dishes.
Food: The waitress recommended the Salmon bits to start as she said they are very good and made at the restaurant. The salmon bites coated in a very hard outer shell, drenched in some type of sweet syrup. Once I cut the Salmon bit open, I tasted the fish, very chewy for some reason and it tasted overly fishy. I't just didn't taste fresh. I ordered the chicken penne carbonara for a main dish, I have a picture included. It initially tasted alright, as I dug through I found the dish very greasy, smoothered in cheese and watery at the bottom of the dish, I ended up finding some undercooked chicken as-well. I didn't have the heart to tell the waitress so I just packed it up and left it on the table for clean up. I did however have an amazing deep fryed cheese cake which I cleaned off my plate.
Service: The service was alright until I sent back the Salmon bites, I told my server my dislikes with the dish, I said they taste "really really fishy." She replied "it's fish" and gave me a look. I mentioned they were very chewy as well, and that I know what fresh Salmon tastes like and this was not very good. She kindly took the dish back but never asked me if I wanted anything else, I was happy that the dish was not charged on the bill. After this interaction I felt like I was being watched and hovered over, maybe its just me, but it made me fairly uncomfortable.
Cleanliness: The restaurant seems fairly clean, unfortunately the washroom had no soap. So I hope the employees have a hand washing station. The general atmosphere is calming, nice lighting.
Conclusion: I'd recommend Ali's as a steak restaurant but don't rely on them for pasta or fish. I haven't decided yet if I should return on my next trip, I think they deserve another chance as they have a decent...
Read moreLet me start off by saying that we had visited Ali's a while back for an event and had a meal that was in our opinion mediocre, wasn't extravagant or made us want to return regularly, however with that said we went back for the Sunday brunch and the service started out okay but as we seated ourselves we were greeted by the buffet chef gave us a great place to sit, his service was so far above and beyond, he acknowledged every customer and he made sure to give great details about the food, he even served us testers before we got up to get the actual brunch, his service alone was enough to make us want to come back again, the food itself was very excellent, for a brunch they had everything from pancakes and French toast to scrambled eggs and omelettes to BBQ pork bites bacon and sausages the food was kept very warm almost hot but not enough to burn you, and at the end there was amazing deserts that are to die for, the chef brought us the deserts that he thought would be the best and it was so delicious, I'd recommend the Sunday brunch to everyone, as it may now be a regular thing...
