Gilli's — Restaurant in Temiskaming Shores

After a week in a cabin near Elk lake we stopped at Gillies on way home. We have stopped there a couple times a year for the past ten years, service and food quality has been going down hill year after year . I ordered a Bacon cheese burger with fries, it came with half cooked bacon and fries. I think they forgot to put fries down a second time after blanching them. They were mushy, literally half cooked. My hamburger paddy was burnt to a crisp as was the bun. My wife orderd the breakfast sandwich with home fries. Same thing bacon not cooked cheese not melted, home fries mushy and bun burnt to a crisp. The beef and Barley soup that my wife had was the highlight of the meal. The server never came back to ask if I wanted more coffee, even when she dropped off the bill. The cashier and server must be working together, I listen to cashier pretty much shame you into leaving server a large tip. First off it was cash only , apparently the visa machines were down but the in-house cash machine was not, you know the ones that charge you $5 per transaction and the bank hits you another $3 to $5 as well. After listening to cashiers tactics through our meal, I thought in my mind noway am I giving a $14 tip for bad food and bad service. I left a $5 bill on the table and went the cashier.. I handed her $60 for $46 bill. " would you like to leave the rest for your server?" I said no .. excuse me are you sure sir ? In a louder tone again I said no , I am good . So in even a louder tone so that everyone with in 50 feet can hear," so your not leaving her a tip. I said what Part of no did you not understand? Next in real nasty tone "I will have to go get change" ..8 people behind me at this point.. I gave her 3x$20 and you had no change for that in your till?. UN FVKING BELIEVABLE. This will the last time we ever stop at Gillies Truck Stop. I hope the owner reads this post and stops the high pressure...

I've stopped here twice a year for annual snowmobile trips. Once on the way up, once on the way back. Never had an issue. On March 3 2024, we arrived and restaurant wasn't overly busy. Maybe 50% full. We were seated and forgotten about. I watched many wait staff make eye contact with me but they quickly looked away and kept walking. After 10 minutes of waiting, I witnessed a couple get seated right behind us who had their order taken about 10 minutes after being seated. 5 minutes later they had their appetizers served to them. It was at this time that we stood up to leave and that's when wait staff ran over to us to take our order. We just said thanks but we are leaving. Upon leaving, the 3 tables near the exit were occupied (empty when we arrived) and 1 table was eating their main meal. We understand that in this day and age, businesses are short staffed and staff are overworked, but in my opinion, there was plenty of staff for the amount of customers on this day. We were just completely ignored. I'm sure the food is still fine but we never got a chance to try it. Never even got a water/coffee order. We will probably not come back now because of this bad experience. I hope for the business' sake, management reads this and corrects...

We were really disappointed this morning at Gilli's. We haven't been there in a while, so it was going to be a real treat. We have always had an excellent meal there, and the eggs benedict have always been the absolute best in the area. We placed our order quickly and received our coffees. We then waited 45 minutes for our meal, without even an offer to refill our coffees. My husband finally approached the waitress to see if our meals would be out soon. Apparently, our meal had been delivered to someone else, who accepted it, even though it wasn't what they had ordered. When we did receive our breakfast, it was NOT the breakfast we expected. The eggs benedict had, not even a 2-inch square piece of thin-sliced overcooked sandwich ham, instead of the breakfast ham or peameal bacon we used to get. I couldn't even see the meat under the hard-poached egg, that I had asked to be soft-boiled. The home fries we used to get are now sliced potatoes that are deep fried. At the cash, we received the above explanation and were told "Sorry, guys." And we paid our full-priced bill, and left...and don't think...
