I would honestly give a 0 star overall if I could. The food has majorly declined in terms of taste. I went here with my aunts who cane over on vacation and I have been have many times pre-Covid and the food and service was amazing but I haven’t been here since Covid hit and wow it has gotten so much worse. I went there on a Friday afternoon there was only our table at the restaurant so very quiet and not busy at all. When my aunts and I were ready to order I kept calling the servers over (two present and the lady owner was there at the cashier). One of the staff was texting on her phone and the other saw me call her over but she wouldn’t even respond or look up. The lady owner was just standing there also ignoring my call to order. It took us 15 minutes just to get our orders placed because no one was willing to take our order. When the food arrived it was all cold. We mentioned to the lady owner and she could care less. Overall the customer service itself was horrible. The food quality was horrific and taste was meh. Would definitely not recommend and not go back. This is to review the AMAZING Almond Meringue cake they have here. I absolutely love this cake. It is not too sweet, and the cream is very fresh. I don't think you can find any other in Toronto!

Maxim's Cafe & Patisserie has been here for over 20 years and I still remember the first time having the Mango Almond Meringue cake and I was blown away. But because it is the winter now, and mango is not in season... I ordered the Strawberry Almond Meringue cake instead of a birthday celebration, and everyone at the party loved it :)

Other than Mango, Strawberry, they also have Mixed Berry, Blueberry, and Mixed Fruit?? I'm actually not sure about the Mixed Fruit lol. I might have heard it wrong on the phone.

They sell this cake in 8" (6-12 people) and 10" (8-16 people) and I think you can also customize the size if you want to go even bigger (like a slab). I went for the 10" for $35 and I added a chocolate plaque with a message written on it for $0.50 more.

You can walk in to purchase or you can place it order on the phone to have the cake reserved for you. The cake shop is in the front section of the cafe, and there are plenty of other types of cakes available too!

I've seen so many negative reviews, and I'm here to clear things up. I have worked here before and I saw a lot of people said the the servers were not familiar with menus and or the food order it is because they just throw the menu at us and tell us to memorize, no photos, no nothing. I tried my best there but I was overworked and underpaid to the point my mental health started declining and my memory gradually worsened. The women that trained me would yell at me if i did the slightest thing wrong or if I asked a question. I was stressed trying to memorize the menu on break and she looked at me and said "if you don't want to memorize just dont" I don't know where she got that from I'm 16 and was stressed. I worked from opening to closing all day 11am-11pm, sometimes would go until 12 working part time. They pay you $10 an hour and it's under the counter. I was drained working here. I'm scared to find another job because of this experience. Although their food is quite good. The only person that was nice to me here was the baker downstairs or girls working...
