Let me start by saying that my expectations for the Twine Loft were not at all lofty going in. But ultimately, overall I was very pleasantly surprised.
Pre-meal cocktails on the outside deck, nicely appointed with the requisite fishing equipment and nets. It was quite lovely to watch the sun set over the water and enjoy the conversation prior to our service.
And right on time, we were invited to our table inside. Again the dining room was nicely appointed with a marine theme, including oil lamps on each table, a nice touch.
Initially, the service was rushed and bordering on intrusive, but improved steadily as the evening went on.
The first course was a slightly under-seasoned and underwhelming Turnip-apple soup, which had potential to be stellar but just didn't quite achieve.
Between courses I had an opportunity to visit the washroom facilities, which firstly are actually and oddly outside the restaurant, in a separate building! While clean and functional, the amenities were a tad provincial, with a roll of kitchen towels on the wall, and Costco kitchen bags lining the large waste bin. Yikes.
On to the rest of the meal. Our main course was a delightfully poached cod, en papillot. Superbly cooked, nicely seasoned, sublimely fresh and exquisitely textured. I'll submit to you that it was... I must consider these words carefully... yes, the best cod that I've EVER had. The accompaniments consisted of beautifully roasted lemon finglerlings and perfectly sautéed asparagus. An exceptional dish.
A mini pecan pie completed the three courses, and while attractive and sweet, it was a little too heavy following the lightness of the seafood.
Now, did I mention? All of this for a mere $55 cdn. Amazing.
Our waiter was attentive during the service, and although, as I mentioned, initially rushed, paced the service quite well. And graciously shared a personal 'story' with us that made the event that much more genuine. Thank you Glenn!!
Overall, extremely well done Twine Loft. Congrats to the chef, Glenn, and the entire staff for a memorable meal and...
Read moreGreat experience. Super friendly and welcoming. Just read my review and don't be surprised by the unusual details in the reservation process:
This place is tiny. They have only 3 people working there in a small space and yet they serve a very lovely gourmet meal. But this requires a little planning... For starters, you definitely need reservations. In order to operate this little place efficiently, they take your food order as part of the reservation. I presume this avoids waste and shortages. For same reason, dinner just happens all at once. So all the customers show up and then they serve. So don't be turned off that you cant just pick a random time like 6:30 or 8pm. It's just part of their business.
Like others, I maybe was a bit put off by the initial reservation experience on the phone. But later decided this feeling was more from me not understanding how they operate. Haha. Perhaps they could ask each caller if it is their first time and explain "we have a special way of coordinating..."
But in any event, definitely go there! It is very nice, the food is good and they are all...
Read moreAfter a day and night of hiking in 'Fog and Bog' from Popes Harbour to Old Bonaventure, the Twine Loft was a wonderful change from the previous night of 'add water, stir and wait 10 minutes'. Their menu is reasonably inclusive for all appetites. The vast majority of our group of ( 12 from Australia) ordered the Lamb Shoulder several hours earlier . . . it was absolutely delicious and even topped some of the similar Pub Meals we had in the U.K. The Lamb went exceptionally well with a rather nice Chilean Red. I opted for the salad and was assured it would 'Not' include any 'white leafs' but garden green and fresh, which is just what I had received. Not being of the 'sweet tooth' type I passed on the dessert which others gulped down, including my portion. The Staff was excellent, very professional and the waitress surprised me when she returned my 'Spanish comment' in that language. The sitting was upstairs and while we were a large group, there was not problem with space. No additional charge for the view across the Harbor. A restaurant...
