The points for this review is purely for the pleasure of sitting outside on a 2nd floor patio overlooking expansive area of green lawn, gardens and forest. I am also grateful for the non-metal chairs! It was 27°. We've just been cooling in the forests of the beautiful UBC Botanical Garden and not quite ready to drive back to the city. Westward Ho at the UBC Golf Course came up on my Google search for brunch. Their patio picture was the deciding factor. Since it was nearly Happy Hour, the pub wasn't crowded and we were able to get a table in the impressively big patio. Not sure if it would be equally impressive had it been a really sunny day. We'd have to check that out another time. On this cloud day, the patio was very bright – almost to the point where I have to put on my sun glasses. As for the food, we had a hard time choosing: fresh fish and chips, fish sandwich, Beyond Beef burger, all day breakfast, etc. I ordered a Club House with multigrain yam fries, my companion ordered fresh Cod and Chips. The bread in my Club House was dried out, the sandwich did not look as scrumptious as the one with sour dough presented to the table next to us. My sandwich was too 'orderly', the chicken did not spill out of the sandwich like the one I saw earlier. I enjoyed the cod fish though – very fresh and not over battered. So, I guess I ordered the wrong thing! I liked the choice of using vinegar on coleslaw instead of mayo. A decent size coleslaw for a more balanced meal. MSG? For a few hours afterwards, I was very thirsty, but did not get the usual sickly feeling from eating MSG. So, not sure what was in the food that caused my tongue to...
Read moreI usually come here every sunday for breakfast with my family. The service is usually ok but there are a few key waiters who accommodate my extended family (we have upwards of 12 people at a table) However the food is not great. The menu is out of date so when you try and order certain items such as pancakes they tell you they don't carry that any more. My aunt who comes at least a few times a year has the same conversation about how the menu hasn't changed and yet they say they'll update it. We only eat here because it's convenient but it's not given the lack of menu choices. It's not a great deal for certain items. anyway. They don't have much in the way of tea selection and I'm not sure what they do to the coffee but it's quite watery.
Ask anyone who regularly golfs here and they probably say something similar to "well i'm already here might as well...
Read moreNot Quite Even Average. Zero atmosphere. Our waitress was very slow at greeting us, refilling drinks, checking in on our food. Table didn't have place settings, we had to ask for our cutlery and napkins. I ordered the tzatziki burger, which was so over cooked it hurt my tooth. I took the patty out of the bun and tapped it against my plate and it sounded like a rock. Paying $20 for bland and over cooked food is painful, they should raise their standards or lower their prices. The other orders at the table also stated their food was fine, not very flavourful, but not even...
