⭐ 1 Star – Quality Has Dropped Hard

I used to really enjoy this place. It was a yearly stop at Grand Beach. But now? It’s nothing like it used to be.

We ordered a banana split and it was watery, gritty, and melted in under 30 seconds — and it was only 19°C outside. I asked the girl if they still use the liquid cream base and she got visibly uncomfortable, blinking fast and giving a hesitant “yes.” Something’s changed, and it’s not for the better. The texture was chalky and thin, not the creamy soft serve this place used to be known for.

Angie had a Twister and noticed the same thing — gritty, almost like powdered mix that wasn’t fully dissolved. Honestly, it felt cheap.

We also ordered mozzarella sticks. I asked how big they were before ordering, and the girl motioned with her fingers like they’d be about five inches. They ended up being around two and a half inches — four tiny pieces for $5.85, no sauce, and barely warm. Felt like a bait-and-switch.

The place itself is showing wear. The picnic tables are splintered, rotting, and one we sat at wobbled badly — they’re honestly a safety hazard at this point.

I checked the reviews afterward and saw that this kind of experience isn’t rare. It’s become the norm.

Ice cream taste is decent. Way over priced for what you get. Super unorganized. I wanted a chocolate dip. They apparently don’t do dip until July. What’s the point of a store opening if they aren’t going to sell all menu items. Staff are not trained enough before they open for the season. I ordered an Oreo twister with extra Oreo and sprinkles. First it came with just normal amount of Oreos. I mentioned it to them and they were happy to fix it but there way of fixing it was dumping the extra Oreo and sprinkles on top. I said to the girl it’s suppose to be mixed in. She said the topping is right there. It’s really a shame because lankys used to be a great place to go when at the beach. Gone way down hill in the last few years. Won’t be back after today. Also I will mention that there was a group of people waiting for their order around the same time. 2 people each got a scoop of cookie dough in a waffle cone. I ordered a 12” hot dog for my son today and the cashier was very pleasant. When my number was called, I asked the server (older lady) for 5 small packages of ketchup and 1 package of mustard. She asked, “5 packages of ketchup?” I said, “Yes, my son loves ketchup and he’s autistic.” She then said, “well, that’s ridiculous!” Side note: as you realize, there is only 8 ml’s of ketchup in the small package. How many ml’s do customers put on their hot dog from the ketchup bottle?? When I left, I was very upset with the servers tone of voice and comment as she showed no compassion. If you have nothing nice to say, do not say anything at all!! Kindness goes a long way! She needs to learn customer service skills and know that each person is different with different needs.
