It pains me to give such a low rating but over the course of our families 3 week vacation this year our experience with 1516 Pub was really poor.
First experince; We went in person and there was 50 percent of the patio empty and about the same amount of open tables in the restaurant. We were told it would be 30 minute wait and when asked if we could sit at one of the many open tables and wait and have a drink we were met with hostility from the hostess, we then left.
Second experience; We tried to book 3 days ahead for a reservation and were met with a poor attiude telling us they are not taking any reservations at all.
Third experience; We got a table on the patio, the food and drinks were acceptable but fairly pricey, the service however was poor; ordering took a while, server wasn't pleasant and the takeout order we placed we found to be wrong upon returning home.
Fourth experience (best of all the experiences) we ordered takeout during their 2-4 period when their menu is limited. Food was acceptable but pricey. The food was 10 minutes over the time for pickup.
Fifth experince; We tried ordering pickup during middle of the day (3pm) for a dinner pickup (5:30 - 6:00 pickup, lots of time to prepare) and were told that no take out orders are available for the entire day.
I feel like my repeated attempts show my patient but at this point they are charging top dollar and providing a lack luster service.
We vacation here on the lake every year and have visited the restaurant under all the previous ownerships of the last 20 years and were thrilled to here the ownership of the Italian Kitchen (Vernon) took over only to have our worst experiences...
Read moreJuly 16 2024 update. DISAPPOINTING meals for 4 out of 5 of us. :( Stopped in while boating for dinner. Ordered some deep fried pickles for the group to share as an appetizer which never arrived. When our dinners arrived. Fish tacos were badly overcooked and fish appeared grey. Buffalo chicken wrap was lacking flavor and more of a lettuce wrap than anything, cajan prawns again flavorless. Tuna poke which I have had several times previously and quite enjoyed was also lacking flavor and its usual goodness. We.mentioned all the above to both a server that came by to check on us after a lengthy delay waiting for the bill, with little response. and I also spoke to the manager for the day when we left after paying the bill, who also seemed to have the sorry not sorry attitude. It will be difficult to go back again for meals here. Really seems to have gone downhill. A true shame for Vernon's only lakefront dining.
Original review. Getting better each visit, we have stopped in a few times since the reopening. Food and service has improved each visit. We all enjoyed our lunch of chicken burgers and beef dips. Fish n chips and buffalo wrap tried on previous stops. Best patio view in Vernon and drive up boat parking for break from water activities.
Update Jan 2024: I've been here a few times since the original review over a year ago. A couple of visits this summer were a miss on food quality, just an OK meal. A lunch stop this week was very good once again. Hopefully, the quality and service will stay up. The views here deserve...
Read moreSunday 3:00 p.m. not very busy, table for 5. My Mom had dry ribs that were very crunchy, over cooked, and tasteless. My dad had calamari and didn’t know what he was eating. It looked like very thick panko breadcrumbs rolled into a ball and deep fried in old oil. Was there even a piece of calamari in there? Husband’s burger was fair- fries were like generic McCann’s frozen from a bag. Niece had the Flatbread margarita, she said it was like eating Pillsbury dough. I had the tofu poke bowl but came with Tuna instead. Left the tuna so ended up paying $28.00 for 7 tablespoons of rice garnished with 4 slices each of wilting raw radish and cucumber. Terrible presentation. Left the Tuna in tack… hopefully it doesn’t end up on the next diner’s plate. All the glasses were filthy (including lip stains) I had to go to my car to get a stainless-steel cup from my car so I could have a drink. The only positive was the bottled wine. If you’re use to eating Kraft dinner or if you’re drunk, then you would think the food is gourmet. The food tasted like my 16-year-old son cooked it. If you are used to ½ decent dining, you would find the dining experience sub par. If I was the only one at the table that was disappointed it is on me, but when 5 people have the same experience it’s on the establishment. The poor quality does not reflect the high price you pay. Better off putting a hotdog and hamburger stand on the property, it would be...
