Read moreMeals My husband had the pork hock dinner and I had the rib and pig tail dinner. The portions were incredible! All the meats were done to perfection, very delicious! Vegetables were peas, pretty plain. Mashed potatoes were somewhat lumpy but tasty. Sauerkraut was great, not overpowering as in some restaurants. Homemade coleslaw very nice albeit swimming in dressing. Beer and wine cold and refreshing. Price is VERY reasonable. The reviews saying its too expensive.....really??? McDonalds and Wendys charge ridiculous prices for processed food!! Here, you get a great homecooked meal for less price than many restaurants. Service Every person was very efficient, friendly and courteous. WELL DONE!!!! Atmosphere We were pretty surprised that a "German" restaurant was 90% Asian customers. I was told this is the norm, they often arrive in busloads. So you have to know that you will be sitting among large tables of people speaking Asian and sharing platters of food. They love their food. Its very noisy for sure!!!! We lucked out as there was live music to enjoy! Overall opinion We were first seated at a tiny table for 2 at the very end of the bar. Within 3 feet of us was a rusty crusty white enamel garbage container, that should have been replaced a decade ago, and boxes of beer empties.Who could enjoy dining looking at that? We asked to move and were seated in the front room. Much better. The place is in need of some TLC. Cobwebs. Ladies room has 2 very tiny stalls and is unwelcoming in every aspect. Not nice. My question to the owners. You are jam packed full and always busy, why cant you clean up and refresh your establishment? Paint peeling from the outside walls, dingy and old interior, terrible washrooms.....your place could be so much more inviting. My guess is that your customers dont really care, they will always come regardless. Im not sure we will return. The food is great but the noise level does not lend to a...
Overall, the food here lives up to the hype, but the cleanliness really needs to be improved!
I’ve long heard of this restaurant and finally made a visit in August 2023. Beware that the restaurant can get crowded! We arrived at around 1PM intending to have lunch, but there was a long wait, so we decided to proceed with our afternoon activities and come back later for dinner instead, which turned out to be a wise choice because as we left, a tour bus pulled in full of visitors.
Arriving for dinner, we were promptly seated in a side room that was quiet but felt a bit run-down and had bugs flying around. Not the best impression. And when I went to the washroom, I was horrified…It was smelly, dirty, and had paper all over the floor. It was probably the dirtiest and smelliest restaurant washroom I have been to in Canada…
However, the food really amazed me. We ordered pork hocks and the ribs daily special, and they looked so full and appetizing. The portion was definitely huge and more than enough to make us full. Not only did the meat taste good and was extremely rich, but so did the sauce and the sides. In fact, I had one of the best coleslaw ever. We were all full to the brims when we left – make sure you budget enough time because the type of food is definitely not something to be rushed on! (And it can take a while for the food to be served.) In terms of food, it was fantastic at less than $30 per person – if only the restaurant paid more attention to its cleanliness, especially the washroom, then it would really be a...
Read moreI took my son- my daughter-in-law- & my grand-daughter- on a short drive in the country- to the Heidelberg restaurant & pub- for a special supper- our last together- before they all return home to Japan. I hoped they would experience some country style food & hospitality. We were not disappointed. We had a table near the pianist- who has played there forever- & the player piano option was used on his breaks. Quite charming. Our servers were friendly & efficient. The food was terrific- with old school home cooked touches. I asked how they prepared their schnitzel- & the nice lady said- ‘we smash the crap out of it- bread it- & then fry it.’ We laughed. We had pig tails- schnitzel with apple sauce- sausage- mashed potatoes- fries- vegetables- coke slaw- beers- tea- a warmed fudge coated brownie- & awesome warmed pecan pie with ice cream. It was great! We felt so at home & comfortable. The bill was more than reasonable. I even talked with the owner & his son- about the extensive history of the hotel- (1850) & rock’n’roll. It was a wonderful time- & my son & his family enjoyed it thoroughly!. And they even saw some mennonites & buggies| horses- which was a bonus for them. They really enjoyed going out to the country. We would go back to the Heidelberg in a heartbeat!- for the amazing food- the kind people- even just to hang out in the bar. It was a special time for us! Thanks Bob & everyone there- including old Ozzie at the...
