Ok I have to admit this is my coffee / hot chocolate break place. This is were I break out the cake I bought the night before at Pure Bread in the village. This is the place I come to after skiing the Whistler Bowls in the morning. Then off to Seventh Heaven for a few runs followed by the Crystal Hut lunch.
Not taking pictures here is a mistake.
Don’t worry about the number of runs you get in at Whistler it can be raining in the village, snowing at mid station and Blue Bird Sky’s here. Over the years I have only had to Braille Ski twice from this location. Never been rained on.
Covid has made me realize how much I miss my visits to Whistler and how easy it is to make new friends in the lodges. Horstman Hut is no different. Language is not a problem here. Smiles and one of Whistler’s Cloth Trail Maps / goggle cleaners go a long way. Offering to guide fellow tourists to some great run is a matter of pointing, smiling and using you hand to indicate how steep nodding also come in handy. Introduced a few Japanese couples to Blackcomb Crystal Glacier via the Blue Line down to the Crystal Hut then to the runs below / Rock and Roll. Later on I showed them where to down load to save their legs for the next day.
The next day I was met by a group of 20 or so friend of theirs. They followed my on my peak to creak run. Then we explored the Symphony Bowl, the Harmony Bowl all before lunch at the Crystal hut. That afternoon was spent checking out more of the Blackcomb side.
I now get wonderful winter cards with English Translations of their ski trips. It’s is great to see them exploring other resorts. Like Banff, Jasper, Red Mountain. Usually I get a dozen or so photos along with great letters. I also always get...
Read moreDisappointing. Whistler Blackcomb has been pushing how wonderful the reimagined Horstman Hut is. Sadly, as often seems to be the case with WB, the delivery is less than adequate. One till wasn't working, so the woman who was supposed to be on the till was helping with the food preparation, and the inexperienced guy was left to operate the till. Meaning he was continually leaving the till and pulling the woman who knew how to work the till back to sort out the problems. Why there was two preparing food, I have no idea, as it was obvious that the bottleneck was at the till. To add to the disappointment, there were no German sausages available, which was why most people were there. The woman explained that the sausage delivery hadn't arrived. I've heard this excuse made at WB food and beverage outlets time and time again, obviously either somebody in distribution or purchasing is letting the WB team down, resulting in lost revenue for WB and their...
Read moreIt is a restaurant high up on the Blackcomb peak near Whistler. We had to ride up from the 7th Heaven Express chair lift station, and the views from there of the Rocky mountain peaks were spectacular to say the least. The Horstman Hut is a log cabin like in the Swiss Alps, and we get some really hot pies, goulash, burgers and snacks. We went for the steaming cups of hot chocolates which got sold out before they could make the next batch, it was so cold. The views from the hut...
