Pappardella — Restaurant in Sal

I’m finding it hard to write this review but u have to be true to my grading system. I want to make it clear that the staff working in the restaurant are working hard and delivering against what they’ve asked to produce

Pappardella is one of the four a la carte restaurants in the RIU Palace Santa Maria. Everyone can eat in the buffet but you have to make a reservation for the a la carte places. You use the RIU app to do that and places are released at midnight 3 days ahead

Of the four a la carte places, this Italian restaurant is alone in serving the starter and dessert buffet style. The main weakness is that this isn’t really an Italian restaurant with 90-95% of the dishes also being available in the buffet restaurant. The chefs do seem familiar with Italian dishes - for example, the risotto was like a soup. There was no Parmesan, which for example would have lifted my seafood spaghetti

Le restaurant est joliment décoré avec une belle touche italienne et le service est impeccable. En revanche, côté cuisine, j’ai été un peu déçu : la plupart des plats proposés se retrouvent déjà au buffet principal et les saveurs italiennes ne sont pas vraiment au rendez-vous. L’Italie se distingue pourtant par ses condiments simples mais essentiels comme l’origan, le basilic, l’huile d’olive, et surtout une bonne sauce tomate fraîche — facile à préparer même en grande quantité. Ici, la sauce servie avec les spaghetti ressemblait davantage à une base industrielle légèrement cuisinée qu’à une véritable sauce maison. De plus, les spaghetti étaient cassés dans l’assiette, ce que j’ai trouvé assez désagréable. Le plat servi à table restait correct, mais manquait clairement de caractère et d’authenticité. Could have done with some background music as the atmosphere was lacking for an Italian restaurant. Lovey food, great service. A bit weird with the starter buffet as all diners flocked to the starters at the same time! Apart from that definitely...
