If you come to this restaurant and are assigned with the bald-headed waiter with a gray / white beard, please kindly request for another waiter if you want to feel welcome with dignity at the restaurant.
Last night, we ate here. With exception to our dining experience with our server, an honest rating for the food we ordered and the experience with the other staff (host and staff who filled our water and helped take a family picture) would have been 4 stars.
Pricing for this restaurant is a bit on the high end for the portion size. We ordered the Morgan’s Combo, Seafood Pasta and kid’s menu pasta. The seafood pasta was delicious; just on the small portion side and we wished there was more seafood with the pasta.
The Morgan’s Combo gives you a taste of fish, scallop and lobster. It is KYD 58; although nice flavors, it seems you can get more and feel full / satisfied from other lesser-prices entree selections on the menu such as the seafood pasta.
For families, just know the kid’s pasta does not include a side for free (e.g. fries) unlike the other kid’s menu selections
With that said, our dining experience was very poor due to the service from server.
He never welcomed us and never explained the menu or made recommendations. We sat outside and noticed that other waiters engaged with their patrons explaining the menu and greeting them nicely. We did not get that at all.
My wife ordered a virgin pina colada. When he brought it over, she asked to confirm it was non-alcoholic because she cannot drink alcohol and he gave a very curt response “of course it is” and walked away.
When ordering entrees, I asked how the Morgan’s combo was prepared. He responded annoyingly as if I should have known and said “of course it is grilled”. When we asked how the seafood pasta was, he just gave a shrug. We still ordered the pasta dish as it was recommended by our stingray cruise.
After taking the order, he never showed up again to check in on us until long after we were done with our meal. It was a good 10-15 minutes since our plates were taken away that he showed up and dropped off a dessert menu simply saying “if you want anything let me know” and quickly walking away before I could ask for recommendations. We actually were interested in ordering dessert, but with this experience we were ready to go.
From the time he left us with the dessert menu, it was more than 10 minutes before get his attention. He came back with the receipt and then several more minutes later with the credit card machine. As he handed me the device, he emphasized that gratuity was not included and some suggested percentages. This was the most attention and explanation we got from him all evening. Unfortunately, I could not give the gratuity that he recommended, as that would indicate excellent service. However, as he was keenly viewing the device as to what I would input, I still gave a respectable gratuity accounting for the service provided by the other staff. Apparently, this was either insufficient for his satisfaction for his extremely bare minimum service he gave us or perhaps he was just indifferent. Regardless, consistent with his purely transactional demeanor, he quickly finalized the transaction on the device, and walked away. No thank you or even a mention to enjoy the rest of your evening or if we needed a taxi.
The front desk was nice to call for a taxi. As we awaited, I provided the front desk host with feedback that the food was and ambiance were nice with most staff being wonderful with the exception to the service we received from our primary server. The host immediately asked “was your server the one with the bald head and beard?” After I confirmed, he said that this particular server is “always grumpy” and apologized. Thus, this particular server’s attitude is an existing issue known to the restaurant already.
The fact that this experience caused me to write this while we are still on vacation should speak volumes on how much it stood out to us compared to other...
Read moreMake a reservation! Beautiful outdoor seating. Food was great!! Had a couple appetizers and the catch of the day for a meal (blackened grouper - 1/3 of the options) and I was very happy with my choice. I gave 3 stars for a couple of reasons. Although the staff was very friendly the entire night, and attentive at the very beginning of our dinner, it was disappointing to see the attentiveness decline as much as it did as the night got busier. Obviously this is quite normal, but with as many staff as there was standing throughout the restaurant it was quite shocking how long we went without some water even after finishing both mine and my husband’s. Realistically that was a minor inconvenience for the evening, but here’s what wasn’t. As we were looking over the dessert menu my husband stepped away from the table with our daughter. Our waiter was nice enough to ask if we needed to wait on him to come back to decide, but we explained we were good to go ahead and order dessert as he was not wanting any. At that time the waiter grabbed both menus and said “I’ll bring everyone a drink then!” And walked off without getting our order. We thought it was quite odd to say the least, but okay. Once we finally got the dessert and asked for our check, our server explained they are the only restaurant on the island that doesn’t and the 20% gratuity as everywhere else does (15-20%). We all thanked him for letting us know as that was a surprise. Well…he was right. They didn’t add the 20%. In fact they added 25%. Not only did the original copy have a red stamp saying “gratuity not included” that was manually placed on there by our waiter, but the receipt to be signed was printed with the tip line filled in at a 25% tip. It was extremely disappointing. Sure, that’s what we were going to tip anyways. However, why go out of your way to advise the gratuity isn’t included when you’re going to give a receipt with the tip already printed on there for your customers?
Needless to say, we would go back because the food was that good, but we would be aware that if we were told this again that it was false information. I never mind tipping someone for doing a good job, but I do mind not being upfront about it…or more so going out of your way to be incorrect. And that’s putting it nicely. I’m unsure if this is common with all waiters or if it was just ours. So maybe it was a fluke, but it was definitely something that didn’t sit well with any of us which is unfortunate.
EDIT: while I originally gave 3 stars, here’s why I bumped it to 4. When we returned home (after not having service while traveling) my husband received a voicemail from someone at the restaurant. Their voicemail explained there was a miscommunication with the tip being added for us and they apologized as they pride themselves on great service and honesty. As a business owner I can appreciate them reaching out, and I also understanding a review can have an effect on a business. I still believe adding a tip for a customer instead of allowing them to do it themselves (unless specifically asked to) should never be a thing. Again, the food and atmosphere were great. The service definitely could’ve been better all around even without the “miscommunication” making 4 starts a...

I get why Morgan’s is popular—it has a spectacular property and view and is surfing on its reputation from many years ago. I knew when I read the menu it wasn’t for me—each combo of flavors seemed slightly off (such as wasabi potatoes—so 1980s). We had a pushy server who was too busy telling us which high price items to order to listen to us. Ultimately, we tried the tuna sashimi hailed by the server as “what we’re famous for,” which was edible at best. Pounded tuna drenched in sesame oil—a dish for those who don’t like and respect fish. I wasn’t that hungry, so I ordered a Caesar and grilled shrimp (and was charged $32–criminal since the salad should have been $14). I make a far better Caesar. This one had no hint of garlic, mustard, or lemon. The shrimp was throw-away. My husband ordered the duck, what the restaurant claims it is famous for—and I laughed out loud when the dish arrived with a zig zag sauce design on the plate. This whole restaurant is clearly a 1980s production that has rested on its laurels for some time.
If you are a person not used to eating seafood in large cities, you’ll likely enjoy the fresh catches and ambiance. If you’re someone who avidly eats fish around the world...skip Morgan’s and get the conch ceviche and calamari at Macabaca (I’ve returned 3 times for the ceviche—it is out of control).
The cocktails are terrible at Morgan’s too—there’s nothing worse than a Collins glass except a plastic one.
My husband wants me to add that it’s not the price that bothered us. We know what we’re getting into in the Caymans and are headed to Blue tonight. But there’s a different between being cheated and treated like a tourist and spending money on quality food that...
