I don't often go to BBQs because the thought of travelling to Sai Kung is hell and 90% of the time in Hong Kong is hot and humid so why would you want to torture yourself having a BBQ.
Recently I joined some friends at Whitehead BBQ which changed my perception of BBQs and the fact that it was winter made it more enjoyable.
Whitehead BBQ is located in the countryside of Hong Kong with a nice seaview, we got the 10 person package for $2988 which includes a room with a patio for the BBQ furnished with a fridge, air con, TV, table, chairs and some games.
When you arrive, there is a name list at the reception to help people locate their BBQs and the staff will lead you there as well.
After you are settled they will check with you the list of food that is in the fridge and help you to start the BBQ going when you are ready.
Our package included forks, seasonings, plates, tissues and drinks.
Food wise, there was 2 bags of prawns, 2 bags of NZ mussels, 3 bags of scallops with garlic butter, Whole fish, 2 bags of ribs, chicken steaks, pork chops, chicken wings, chicken franks, chicken cartilage, pork burger patties, Taiwanese sausages, cheesy sausages, seafood balls, sweet potatoes and sweetcorn. As well as all that, we had the BBQ suckling pig which was everyone's favourite!! They even help you to serve it when it is ready.
Basically I had a great time and the food was good especially the suckling pig, chicken wings, burger patties and sweet potatoes.
I definitely had an enjoyable day and it has changed my perception of hot and sticky BBQs because it was nice that the place was...
Read moreA huge BBQ place in Ma On Shan which offers good food in a simple environment. It is not fancy, but great for a casual gathering. We ordered a preset 'meal' for 40 people which included a huge variety of chicken, pork, fish, shrimp, scallops, sausages, fish balls, cuttlefish balls and suckling pig. We also had corn and the most delicious little sweet potatoes. The items are all stocked in your private fridge in vacuum sealed packaging with various marinades: curry, lemongrass, honey, black pepper, etc. They provided one soft drink and one water per person. You buy your own beer if you want. We had four charcoal bbqs, so basically 10 people per pit. With the exception of the suckling pig you cook your own food, restock your charcoal, have a chat and visit. We bought beer from their little store for HKD 11-18 per can. All in all great value, and a good time had by all. Our enclosed room had a mahjong table and a karaoke set up, but be warned you have to bring your own karaoke discs if you want to...
Read moreIt's a huge place. Service is minimal but general friendly. Prices aren't cheap, but you do get a lot of food. For the 4-person package, you get very standard BBQ food plus drinks. It was enough to feed all of us: 5 adults, children, and one infant. We even had food leftover that we didn't cook. There's a massive inflatable play area that could easily keep kids entertained for hours. The arcade area is an easy money-grabber, but kids (and some adults) do enjoy it and it makes the BBQ experience less boring (some are too young to stand near the fire anyway). Toilets are clean. We walked easily from the YMCA Youth Village in Ma On Shan,...
