The first place I tried was a bar called Ellens or Allens, depending where you look. I wasn't impressed with the battered gristle, but I am sure some people will like it. Bottles of beer (Budweiser and others) were around 10RMB. Can't grumble at that. The next place I tried was called Octagon. The doorman said it was reservation only so I made to leave, but a character approached me and said he could get me inside. We went in, found a seat and he offered to find a girl to accompany me. I said that sounded expensive and I was just wanting some beer. He said the price was 1500. I said some beer would be great. He dropped the price to 1000. It was definitely in the back of my mind that I was in a place that couldn't manage to sort out a bottle of beer for me. I left and went to Dr Oscar's. I got a really strange look when I asked a member of staff for a bottle of beer. She queried whether I had money. I gave her 100 and got a bottle of beer but no change. Before I left I declined the offer to have another bottle for 100. Next stop Equator. Here they found it relatively straightforward to find me a few bottles of beer for 35RMB each. I stayed here until the music stopped and the lights went on at 3:20am on a Monday night. Definitely a 5*...
