Los Platillos Voladores — Restaurant in Arenal

We've been living for a month in Marita's B&B next door and finally decided to visit the place for some pizza right before Christmas. We sat outside on a sunbathed patio and enjoyed another Pura Vida day as we were waiting for our order: caprese ensalada mixta and pizza con gorgonzola y cebolla. Sunday afternoon was as tranquil as Nuevo Arenal gets.

Our food arrived very quickly and neither pizza nor salad disappointed us. I truly enjoyed authentic thin crust pizza with just enough cheese and onions to make a statement. It was fresh out of the oven, with gorgonzola melted just right and red onions spreaded around the pie. Salad with fresh buffalo mozarella was huge and very satisfying.

I will definitely be back for more pizza, gorgeous views, welcoming service and what seems like a truly authentic Italian...

On our way to La Fortuna, we made a side trip to Lago Cote and then to this restaurant. Please make the journey to this lake and experience the peaceful feeling it emits for yourself. You will not be disappointed. Although, I can not rate the food, we did meet the nicest and most joyful lady working the counter when we stopped by for some souvenirs. Make this a stop and get the best souvenirs in all of CR. You can get sloth magnets everywhere, but where else can you get a handmade alien and sticker with a UFO and the Arenal volcano? Hopefully you also get to meet the kind lady behind the counter that hand makes the aliens because her happiness is contagious and worth the stop...

To locals, this restaurant is also known as “Emmi’s”, for the owner. I would like to sneak her into my suitcase and bring her back to Chicago with me because her food is THAT GOOD (and Chicago is one of the best food cities around). There is not one thing on the menu that isn’t a home run. I’m fact, after traveling extensively through Italy, I can honestly say that her lasagna is one of the best I’ve ever eaten - it’s amazing!
