I have had bad experiences and never left a review- I completely understand that any restaurant can have a bad night. We arrived at Lochito's @ 6:45 pm on a Monday. It was busy- just about full. We ordered drinks; 1 water, 1 margarita & 1 soft drink. They took 15 minutes (at least). While we were waiting there were other customers clearly frustrated at how long they had been waiting for their dinner. The couple behind us when up to the bar to inquire about their meal, as they had been waiting 1 hour. Both servers in Spanish said they didn't understand him "no entiendo". As soon as he walked away, they started to laugh. I saw a repeat of this 4 more times before we got our food 1 hour later. The wait can be understandable- frustrating, but perhaps they were short staffed in the kitchen. But, to clearly be laughing at your customers that are disappointed and looking for some kind of communication is absolutely unforgivable. The degree of disrespect that both young men showed to the clients tonight was shocking. This was my first time at the restaurant, so clearly not a good impression. My parents have been going here for 6 years. After tonight, they will never be back. Time for someone to give these young men a lesson in some basic customer service. The food was "ok". My parents both indicated the food had declined as well from all of their...
Read moreWe had a horrible experience here. The waiter messed up our order and blamed us. The order was made by Costa Ricans in Spanish, so it wasn’t a language misunderstanding. We agreed to pay for half of the food we didn’t want and in full for the food we actually wanted. We thought everything was settled. But after paying as agreed and receiving the rest of our food, the owner/manager came out and made a scene. We ended up leaving the food we didn’t order so she wouldn’t make the waiter pay for it and they gave us back the money we paid for that food. The whole thing was extremely unprofessional and made us very uncomfortable. We tried to make the best of the misunderstanding but this was truly the worst experience we had on our vacation...
Read moreLochitos is one of Junquillal's Costa Rican restaurants, although the menu includes a lot more than just the typical casados. It is in our regular rotation of restaurants (we live in the area) because 1) the food is always incredible, 2) it's family-owned and operated, and 3) the family is incredibly warm and inviting.
Lately I have been eating the lomo salteado (Peruvian) - beef tenderloin sauteed with onions and peppers in a rich sauce, served with rice and potatoes. Unbelievably tasty, and it's reasonably priced considering it's such a high-quality dish (I think currently it's around $15 but I wouldn't care if it's more).
We are thrilled the owners opened Lochitos and will continue to be regular...
