A traditional Croatian restaurant with traditional decor, a beautiful terrace next to a natural stream (terrace open during the warmer days).
Although well known (somewhat notorious even) for being popular among various types of rich and flashy socialites, the main reason for its popularity sti lies is excellent food and professional service. If you wish to try truly delicious Croatian cuisine, I highly recommend visiting this place. Menu items like sarma, punjena paprika, naravni odrezak and similar are true gems, former staples of domestic cousine, and well worth a try.
Bears mentioning this place is quite expensive in local terms and even "regular" food tends to be priced above average compared to even high priced local restaurants. You are hardly to regret trying or paying for any food here, as it really is good, but you might want to reconsider paying double prices for drinks like rakija (local version of schnapps you could easily find in most places), bottled water and other added value items that you can limit to a minimum and rather enjoy more food. Younger staff sometimes tends to be a bit too pushy with recommendations, as if they have a sales plan, which sort of spoils the authentic domestic ambient and feeling the staff has your experience at heart.
Pro tip: if you plan on sitting outside as the weather and time of year permit it (and I would recommend it if you can) - consider taking a repellent with you to avoid being disturbed by mosquitoes and enjoying...
Read moreThis used to be a great restaurant with delicious food and impacable service, but this time it was very bad experience. First approach of our server was friendly and helpful but after that everything went downhill. We ordered a plate of dry meat selections with cheeses and it was very poor portion of food and not that great taste. After that I got a pumpkin soup which was 5/5 great balanced soup, big recommend for that. In middle of our dinner our server approached couple times very unprofessional with very weird jokes and disrespectful tone. For main we got duck with mlinci which was recommended by our server, the meal was decent except a little bit of dry duck. Then for the dessert we ordered panna cotta and pancakes, and comment by our server was:”Common why pancakes there are so many better thing than that, and also they are not fresh so now the cooks have to make it for you fresh ones because there are just 3 cooks for whole restaurant”. Totally unnecessary and unprofessional to say to the customer, and when the “fresh” pancakes arrived after 20min, they where cold and chewy like they were old as he mention before. There are way better places to dine in for 45€...
Read moreConsidered for a long while as the crème de la crème of dining in Zagreb, Okrugljak is one of those places which through decades of experience eliminated almost all of the flaws so present in modern day dining. The exterior is surrounded with thick beautiful trees and you can feel the cleaner and cooler air since the Medvednica mountain is just nearby. The interior is truly like a temple praising the folk and history of the nation - wooden logs on the ceiling, beautiful art work, but still keeps a sense of modesty regardless of the grandeur which the place emits intensively. The menu is meat orientated and it's hard to pick a wrong menu... Most Croatian people have heard about the Okrugljak, it has the reputation of having celebrities and athletes as guests. I had the opportunity to dine there a couple of times and I can really confirm the quality of food and service. Depending on the amount of food and bottles of wine ordered (Croatians like large portions), you can have a sublime experience of continental Croatia for about 50 euros per person. The restaurant is simply keen on keeping the reputation they have and it's hard to find a...
