A truly distinctive restaurant with a long-standing tradition where attention is paid to every detail. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, filled with countless antique items, paintings, and photographs displayed throughout the space. The menu is unique, featuring recipes dating back to the 15th, 16th, and 19th centuries, alongside modern specialties, which gives the restaurant a special charm. The presentation of the dishes is excellent, and the staff are friendly and courteous. An added highlight is the museum, which houses over 3,000 cookbooks from past and present, from around the world. Interestingly, this restaurant has hosted both popes who visited Zagreb, and the cutlery used by Pope Benedict XVI is still displayed in the museum. I highly recommend Stari Puntijar and will definitely return.

We had a fantastic dinner experience at Stari Puntijar last night. The food was delicious, the outside seating was very pleasant, and service was fast. But the best part was the chance to talk with the owner about this unique restaurant that has been in the family for five generations. It was a gastronomic time travel experience which included stories about the Pope, heads of governments and more. So many interesting things!

What an atmosphere! Highly recommended place to enjoy a very well cooked, delicious dinner! Overall, it is a restaurant for meat lovers, but as vegetarians, we had great choices and help from the staff to avoid milk products too. We returned for 4 dinners in a row because after tasting the food and meeting the kind and welcoming staff, we didn't bother to look for any other restaurant! The red wine was excellent, too.

Fantastic!!! I'm a vegetarian in a country whose dishes are traditionally meat. The menu looked amazing but no veggie options. I asked the waiter Ivan (part of the Puntijar family) what he suggested expecting a fish option. He instead described an appetizer of plums stuffed with walnut and wrapped in zucchini, and a meal of celery heart twice baked and doused in truffle sauce. What!? It was phenomenal. I was totally blown away. He also helped my elders who aren't so good at ordering for themselves and everyone got delicious veal or other gourmet meats. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Also be sure to visit their private cook book collection next door - the largest in Europe dating...
