I have been to this restaurant twice and both times were truly dissapointing. The first time we were there we had ordered brudet (a fish stew) that was really bland and heavy (too much flour used to thicken the sauce). I could easily get past the taste, but we were seated right next to a wooden fence behind which was a giant pile of trash that smelled horrendously. We asked the waiter to give us an another table. Although he had agreed that the smell was bad, he said he didn't have anything available and most tables are reserved (although they were unoccupied at the time). The meal was completely ruined as the smell overpowered the smell of the dish. We had to pay over 60$ for the privilege of gagging while eating.
Okay, whatever, these things happen (although they definitely shouldn't). However, the second time we were there (August 2024), we also had a bad experience. We ordered two rumpsteaks, both of which were burned to a crisp - completely dry, chewy and unsalted. The potatoes that we ordered were just basic frozen fry'n'dip wedges. We never do this, but we decided to politely ask the waitress if we could send back the steaks and get new ones, as steak should not be that dry. She agreed and apologized. This time we specifically asked for them to be cooked medium rare. However, about a half hour later, two new stakes are served and were overcooked - very far from medium rare. Again, they were very dry and chewy. The waitress said that they probably due to the meat and that maybe the meat wasn't even rumpsteak, but something else. Judging by other reviews, this is not the first time they gave customers lower grade meat instead of rumpstake.
Despite this we were charged for the (fake) rumpsteaks, dry and bland as they were. Very unprofessional all in all. Would be one star review, but the other dishes were fine, and the waitress was nice about everything.
Finally, the atmosphere is not great. Everything seems to be falling apart - the menus, the chairs, etc. The glasses were dirty and had to be replaced. One of the chairs had a rusty screw sticking out that could easily have impaled somebody had we not pointed it out.
There are much better restaurants. Best...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy partner and I had this establishment recommended to us by our hosts whilst on holiday. We decided to visit on our last night in Pula and we were initially greeted with dirty looks and asked if we had a reservation. We opted to sit outside and subsequently the waiter showed us to a table close to the entrance. During the length of our visit, I had noticed that no other guests were asked if they had a reservation. All other guests were greeted with a polite and warm welcome, shown to their tables and offered wine bread and water (not once was this offered to us). For the full length of our visit the wait staff made us feel like third rate customers and we were left to ourselves, only being seen to when prompted and given the most basic of services. Also being looked down upon by anyone who did come to our table, one waiter persistently staring every time they walked past.
The food was fantastic with substantial portion sizes and arrived piping hot.
Following our meal, I had noticed all other guests being offered an aperitif and desserts... again, not once was this offered to us. Bored of waiting I decided to call the waiter and pay our bill. Leaving promptly.
The only reason I have given this restaurant any stars at all is the quality of the food.
If you want great food with fantastic service in Verudela, I would recommend the Restaurant Admiral, located at the other end of Palisina Ulica.
Any tourists or brits visiting, I would steer well clear of Boccaporta. Staff are rude and the service...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHello, my review of Kanoba Boccaporta.
As a starter we had the mixed fishplate and as main dish their signature dish veal knuckle a la peka.
What was good: 1.) The fish plate was absoluetly ok, good and fair value deal. We had some pulpo salad, salmon, a thin slice of tuna and some other small fish delicatessen. Tasted fine and was delicious.
What was ok: 1.) Service was ok. He was a little bit stressed and hectic but all in all friendly but we did not had the feeling to be warmly welcomed.
What went absoluetly wrong: 1.) The main dish was not well prepared. We had the veal buckle a la peco. It was burned outside and tough to eat. Why== Stress, it was not long enough with graduate heat cooked instead fast and with too much heat which is resulting in this burnded, fatty piece of veal. 2.) Finesse is mssing completly. The meat was only salted but without herbs etc. Potatoes in the pot were ok but everything else was missing like carrots, pepper etc. 3.) I cannot say it for 100% but i think even the sauce in the bottom was a convenience product. Tasted like nothing and was just thick and greasy. 4.) For the reservation we called them 3 times in advance and via fb. No reaction at all, we had to drive there to get a booking. We absoluetly wanted to do it because many people recommended us the place.
All in all it has a nice ambience, service was ok but food was not worth it...
