Ate here tonight (Jan 7th 2020) Really authentic experience. As has been mentioned, no menu, you just sit down and eat what you're given. All of which is delicious. And come hungry... There is a lot of food. My advice is to take your time at the start and save some salad etc for the meat dishes that come later on. I didn't give the full 5 stars because of the pressure that was put on us to tip the musicians. It was a very quiet night, only two other people there when we first arrived. There was just traditional music playing over speakers which was fine. Then towards the end of our meal, two musicians arrive. They proceed to tune their instruments in the smoking area, then come in with money suffed between the strings of their instruments. They play one song to a table of local customers (friends of the owners) they tip them €10... Then they come over to us and play FOUR songs. In the middle of the proformance the main waitress sticks another €15 in the guitar. This felt quite intimidating being the only "tourists" in there. After we didn't tip them, they packed up and left, despite there being other local customers still eating. It just all felt a bit planned. The food and atmosphere is great, and i would highly recommend. Price is reasonable. €48 for meze for 2 and a carafe of the house wine. The pressure we felt dampened our experience a bit, so just beware of this fact before going. Maybe when the restaurant is crowded, this pressure is not...
Read moreWould you like a 'special tourist treatment'? If so, this is the place for you, and the owner would love to provide it. We arrived at Taverna Skourouvinnos seeking a light dinner and an authentic atmosphere. We were the only foreigners in the tavern, which is usually something we enjoy. The owner tried to persuade us to go with the meze, an assortment of dishes for 22 euros each. Since we were looking for something light, the waitress gave us the menu, and the owner quickly scribbled "2 euros" on the paper menu. We selected three items from the menu and asked the waitress what the "2 euros" meant. The waitress was puzzled and quickly went to talk with the owner. It was evident that she didn’t know what this "special tourist treatment" was about. She returned and informed us that we needed to add 2 euros on top of the price of each item. Since this was the only tavern around, we stayed there, expecting some nice dishes for the price. The dishes arrived, reasonably prepared but very expensive for the modified price we had to pay. Needless to say, we didn’t pay any service fee (tip). We felt punished with the 35% extra cost for being tourists in Cyprus. Upon leaving, the waitress told us that next time we should try the meze. Sorry, there will be a next time in Cyprus, but certainly not a next time at Taverna...
Read moreWe found this place accidentally and were not disappointed. First of all we asked for menu and surprisingly they do not have any=) However this was not a problem, waiter recommended us to try Meat Meze. If say that was amazingly delicious is to say nothing. We have not counted numbers of plates which were brought to our table, but it could be around 20. From salat and snack to numerous plates with meat (pork, beef, chicken, lamb) in different cooking variations. We were able to eat only 2/3 of all dishes and waiter offered us to pack remains for take-off. After "finishing" with Meze waiter brought traditional desert (sweets, fruits, snack). Taking into consideration, that we were fully loaded with Meze, we were still able to find a place for these delicious sweets, they were really tasty! Moreover would like to express our thanks to the restaurant owner who was very polite and friendly. We will never forget his Zivania "for the drivers" =) This place is definitely the best. And would like to recommend it especially for tourists, cause you will find big difference between this wonderful place "for locals" and places oriented on tourist or located in...
