We were pondering if we should try this tavern after reading some of the bad reviews, but after a recommendation from a local we decided to give it a try. The view and overall ambiance was quite nice, wine was fine, starters were ok and served fast but sadly all went a bit downhill after that. After asking the service for a fresh local fish we were served some red mullet. One of the pieces was very bitter tasting and was carrying a pungent odor quite unique to rotten meat. We have politely told the waiter that we think that one particular piece of the mullet seems to be a bit off and he just told us that it is fine and very fresh and poured lemon all over the fish. We have also ordered some swordfish souvlaki which was overcooked, dry and hard to cut. Upon paying the waiter had asked if we ate the fish to which we have replied that it was really a bit off and that we decided not to. His reply was to start praying in greek. It is quite understandable that something can go wrong in the kitchen or with the suppliers, especially with fresh fish, but the way the service tackled the issue was very unprofessional. After this experience I would be probably questioning quality of the rest of the food or more precisely the restaurant’s quality control, which is really sad because otherwise it would have been quite a nice dinner in a pleasant...
Read moreMy worst taverna experience in Cyprus ever!! As we arrived and asked if it was possible to have a table in the front row (to the sea); the host grumpily replied "Did you book?'. I said 'No'. It was just a request after all. However, we were seated were we wanted. Still, the same guy returned after 5-10 minutes and asked the same question! If anyone should know the answer it was him. After some time the fish meze started to rain down on us. No presentation, the whole event appeared to be some kind of contest between the different waiters on how to throw food on the table in as little time as possible. We hadn't the slightest chance to enjoy whatever should preferably have been consumed warm before it got cold. These waiters should really study what they do with fish meze at e.g Charmer's in Larnaca. Though we never bothered to complain about anything (the staff appeared too ignorant for that, really), they honoured us with not caring to ask if we would like something for dessert. Being very well of the custom of serving some fruits or sweets on the house, and noticing that the neighboring tables were treated in such away, we sat at our table for some minutes untill thinking "What the heck" - and left! Left for good - nothing is taking me back...
Read moreReasonable prices and friendly enough staff, but the lack of care for some of the simplest details does not invite you back. We ordered a salad, grilled sea bream and grilled octopus. The fish was among the smallest I’ve had so far in Cyprus but properly done, juicy, tasty, and came with its compulsory fries. For some reason, the central spine had been removed, leaving all the other small and pricky bones inside and harder to pick out. The octopus was exactly the opposite, a large portion (octopus is expensive and elsewhere portions are typically smaller) but on the dry and hard side, over grilled. The salad was fine, in size, and ingredients but had minimum dressing, if any. There was salt on the table, but no olive oil or vinegar, and the salad was missing all three. And yet, bread was the most disappointing part of the meal. It was well past its prime, already technically stale. I usually eat too much bread, so this helped me from munching. But, c’mon...
