A small treasure on the island!!!

What does it take for me to rate a restaurant with 5 stars? Simple: Great food Friendly service Good atmosphere

Bizim Meyhane in Gönyeli is a small place but full of character. To first timers, it might appear like a sports bar due to the colourful selection of team-shirts. A quick look around on the wall, however, reveals lots of names of villages and places, perhaps lost in the past of this troubled Island but never forgotten. As a Greek Cypriot being in this place with so many familiar words and such welcoming atmosphere was a welcome sign.

The meze is fresh, great variety and plentiful. It comes with great service with people that are quick to notice you need something or loved a particular dish and want more of it.

More amazing is the welcome you receive from the owner, Emir Ali, who is not only full of smiles but he will be constantly hovering around, joining you for a drink and before you realise it you feel that you knew this guy for years.

The highlight was Besiktas, the beautiful 10 year old cat, who joined our table for cuddles but was much better behaved than humans.

Such a wonderful cosy little place! A friend of us recommended this place and we all went there together and I can say it was a very exclusive experience. For someone who is used to Turkish meyhane, this place is heavenly good. They bring more than 20 different mezzes, appetizers, and more mezzes! The big table we were sitting at was not big enough for all the things they kept bringing. I loved their tongue mezze, seftali kebab, kofte, lamb shank, and many other mezzes. The owner, Emir Ali bey, is such a wonderful down to earth guy, with his beviour and hospitality we all felt we knew him for years. One of the best meals on our trip to Cyprus! We arrived in the moment when someone from the restaurant was feeding 20 cats :) They took us in and we ordered.
