I first visited Ney's Bar when, pre COVID and until it closed, it was situated on Playa Bonita, see my original review at the end. Long story cut short, I discovered Ney has recently re-opened in a new location, in the centre of town and could hardly wait to visit again. Situated in Plaza Taina, the new bar restaurant has been open for only three months and has a slightly shorter menu than before, but most of the favorites are still featured and, in short, are every bit as good as previously. We had a Ribeye, a Prime Rib, a Tuna Tartare and a vegetarian dish of Eggplant and Pasta, all were really excellent. In addition to producing the amazing food as chef, Ney emerges regularly to greet customers, many of whom clearly are already regulars and ensure everyone is happy. His enthusiasm is infectious with service friendly, efficient and brisk, with the food arriving in double quick time. The atmosphere is lively, but intimate with Ney retaining his excellent taste in music, played at a volume that still facilitates good conversation. All in all, a different venue, but the same high quality dining experience at very reasonable prices, we shall most certainly be visiting again next time we are in Las Terrenas and I would highly recommend others give it a try, you will not be disappointed.
A new venture, in Playa Bonita but it is clear they have already developed a good reputation as busy for both lunch and dinner. We ordered a tuna tartar to share, a good idea as it was very large and really excellent flavours. I had a rib eye which was also excellent as was my wife's grilled fish. Read moreAwesome place! Ney is a class a chef. He cooks amazing seafood dishes in interesting ways like you’ve never had it before. This guy was born to cook. There is also some Angus steak which is amazing. My favorite is the seared tuna which is out of this world. This is a very nice place right on the beach and wish you can spend the day eat drink and be merry swim on the beach. This place is also right in front of the hotel so theoretically you could stay here and enjoy a wonderful time and have a great place to eat. Si tuviera unos días más en este lugar, sin duda volvería a esa mesa para pedir otra ronda de ese camarón scampi que te hace chuparte los dedos. Pero ya me conoces, me gusta un toquecito picante en mi comida. Así que llamé al camarero y pedí un poco de salsa picante Tabasco. Y déjame decirte, cuando ese elixir picante se encontró con el scampi, fue como una explosión de sabores que me hizo sonreír como un tonto. El picante y los mariscos, es una combinación hecha en el paraíso culinario. Oh, y no nos olvidemos de los purés de papas. Una delicia cremosa y aterciopelada que se derretía en mi boca. Pero aquí está el trato: la próxima vez, voy a cambiar las cosas. Voy a probar el arroz, porque esa salsa que venía con el scampi estaba prácticamente suplicando que la absorban. Hay que aprovechar al máximo cada gota de esa ambrosía, ¿verdad? Y el servicio, amigo mío, fue de primera categoría.
