I have been to Galani Coffee many times, so this review is based on many experiences. As soon as you think you find the best place to sit, one of the waitresses who, by the way, are nowhere available to take orders will rush to scold you off it. You will feel an awkward unwelcome and probably will end up sharing a seat with someone on a very uncomfortable bench. All the seats scream ‘’Take your coffee and leave!’’ super uncomfortable. The irony is that people just don’t take their coffee and leave; they are there to stay, doing their 9-5 job out of their office. If you are lucky and place an order, order your drinks first because your food will take forever to be served, even though it is very delicious. The hot drinks are very well brewed and enjoyable. During our time, we saw so many customers going through a similar experience; it was fascinating. It is like a cycle. With the coffee market booming and offering similar but better service, if the situation continues like this, people will get fade up...
Read moreAs with the quality of most nice places in Ethiopia, Galani's quality has declined rapidly over the past 1-2 years.
For a cafe that is aiming to have customers who sit and work from there, a working Wifi should be an issue they prioritize highly. Every time I have been here over the past 3 months, the wifi has not worked. Likely the staff don't make any effort to really look into it.
Tried to buy coffee beans today and asked to pay with card. Of course the card reader doesn't work. There was litterally no effort from the staff to even suggest where a nearby ATM was, or an alternative solution. I was going to buy coffee for about 3000 ETB but just took my business up up the road to Robera. There they at least have a human face.
Worst of all is the service. You can literally sit for 30-40 min before anyone comes over to ask for your order. Likely they won't come unless you flag one of them down. Today I sat there, no one came for 45 min so I actually just left. It's my last...
Read moreA tranquil spot that never dissappoints!!
I stumbled upon this place during the COVID period and found myself working from home here a few times. It's become a regular spot where i take visitors and go myself every now and then.
They have a rotating international menu every 6 months or so and all of their dishes are mostly spot on. It's really refreshing to see a place in Addis that picks international dishes (not just your usual international burger/pizza etc). You can tell they are foodies from the selection. Coffees are also excellent with good variety. Recently I've really got into the Afghan Bolani, great value and not too overpowering. The zaatar salad dressing is also an excellent touch.
The post-modern industrial feel to the architecture is unique for Addis and high ceiling and windows feels very factory like, in keeping with the theme of a coffee factory/brewery. Staff are always friendly but getting to the place is always interesting.
A real gem in the middle of...
