On October 14, 2023, I had a truly dreadful experience at Totot Traditional Food Hall | Gerji | ቶቶት | ገርጂ. To say it was disappointing would be an understatement. The restaurant staff, especially a person named Daniel, were utterly unprofessional and made me feel incredibly uncomfortable. In fact, I was asked to leave the establishment prematurely, which is completely unacceptable.

To compound the issues, the staff didn't even provide me with the correct change for my transaction, leaving me feeling like I was taken advantage of. Their behavior was aggressive and intimidating, and I felt genuinely threatened during my visit. Moreover, their attire was highly inappropriate for a dining establishment, adding to the overall sense of unease.

The lack of customer service was astounding, as they rushed me through my meal and made it abundantly clear that they had no interest in providing a pleasant dining experience. This lack of professionalism and disregard for customers was truly disheartening.

In summary, I strongly advise against ever setting foot in Totot Traditional Food Hall. My visit was marred by unprofessionalism, intimidation, a complete lack of respect for paying customers, and even issues with the transaction. Save yourself the trouble and choose a different restaurant for your dining needs. This place is an absolute disgrace and does not deserve...

Very unsatisfied.... We called ahead to inquire about dinner reservations and were told that the restaurant does not take reservations, but seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Based on that, we arrived early and secured a spot.

However, we were disappointed to find that our seats were taken—our chairs had been moved, and other customers were given the best spots. When we raised this with the staff, we were met with resistance and unhelpful responses. Instead of being seated fairly, we were handed a special menu with significantly higher prices, which we later learned is usually given to those with reservations—despite being told no reservations were accepted.

After considerable back-and-forth, we managed to get access to the regular menu with standard pricing, but the process was frustrating and unprofessional. The customer service was poor, and the overall experience left us feeling very unwelcome.

While the music was enjoyable, the traditional dance and song I had looked forward to (Gojjamegna) was barely featured, which added to the disappointment.

All in all, this was an unpleasant experience, and I will not be returning. I hope the restaurant takes these concerns seriously and works to improve both communication and...

We were genuinely disappointed with our dining experience at this restaurant. Unfortunately, the quality of the food was subpar from the start. After expressing our concerns, we were offered a replacement dish, but even the second attempt failed to meet basic expectations in terms of taste and presentation.

What made the experience even more frustrating was the lack of attentive service. Although there appeared to be a large number of waitstaff on duty, very few were actually available or responsive. There was no clear point of contact or designated server assigned to our table, which led to confusion and delays throughout our visit.

Over the course of the meal, at least three different servers approached us at different times, took partial orders or made vague promises to return—only to disappear completely. This left us having to escalate our concerns to the floor manager just to receive the most basic level of service.

It's disappointing because the restaurant is located in a prime area and carries a reputable name, which raised our expectations. Unfortunately, the service was disorganized, inattentive, and overall poorly managed, which overshadowed any potential positives the location...

Visited on July 29, 2025 I had dinner at this traditional restaurant with five family members — we were six in total (my child didn’t eat). The place is beautifully designed and has a classic atmosphere that really reflects Ethiopian culture. We ordered traditional food and Tej (honey wine). While the first round of Tej arrived normally, the second order came very late. The waiter told us it had run out and a new batch had to be prepared. Unfortunately, shortly after returning home, I and the family members I live with began vomiting. The next day, I called my other relatives and they confirmed they also experienced the same symptoms. Today is day two. While the rest of my family (who live here in Ethiopia) are feeling better, I’ve been in bed all day, weak and unwell. I live abroad and this experience has been very upsetting. It’s really unfortunate, especially coming from such a respected and beautiful establishment. I’m sharing this not out of anger, but as a warning: please be careful with food and drink hygiene, especially with items like ‘Teji’. I hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously

If you want the best food poisoning make sure you visit this place. I ordered raw kitfo and I had the worst food poisoning ever! Throwing up, stomach pain and diarrhea for about 10 days I felt extremely exhausted and lost weight. I was visiting so 10 days In bed I didn't do anything, you can imagine the frustration. I've been sick due to food before 2-3 days max but this one was intense. It's not even me being unlucky I told my friend and my cousin about it and they told me themselves and another family member were all severely sick after eating kitfo there! Just around me 3 people said they had the same experience and it happened in different times and different years so things never changed, at this rate you can imagine how many more people were poisoned. To the owner of Totot if you are reading this I suggest you train your kitchen staff on food handling , you are poisoning people!! You should take this serious it has been going on for years, I think it should be reported to the appropriate authorities.

Totot Cultural Restaurant is one of the best places in Addis Ababa to experience authentic Ethiopian hospitality, food, and culture all in one setting. The restaurant offers delicious Ethiopian cuisine, with the kitfo standing out as a true highlight—fresh, flavorful, and prepared to perfection. To complement the meal, the traditional drinks such as tej (honey wine) and areki bring a unique cultural touch that elevates the dining experience. What truly makes Totot special is the live cultural music and dance performances. The show is full of energy and showcases the beauty and diversity of Ethiopia’s cultural heritage, making the night not just about food but a celebration of tradition.
