BAR RESTAURANT DU SOLEIL — Restaurant in Arcachon

Nice location, let down by incompetent staff in a disorganised team without proper leadership. Read on why this low review. We arrived around sunset for a drink and a meal. Friendly waiter directed us to lower terrace. We ordered bottle of white whine and tapa’s plate to share. The waiter then indicated that as the restaurant was about to open we could already take a free table on the first row on the upper terrace. So we did, selecting table with free nice view. Moment later another waiter asked us to move to another table as this one had not been prepared? Bit surprised as he could have fixed that in one minute. Next table now with a folded parasol in the view. He returned asking what we had ordered? He did not know from his colleague. Now the wine was not available and the plate with tapas was not possible in this part of the terrace. We tried to explain we had ordered this already and were advised to move to this part. He said we should listen as he would explain. His behaviour was one of not listening and just rude, without any attempt to resolve what was clearly a break down in internal team communication. So we asked him if it was the same restaurant and if he would organise our order or if we should leave. No attempt whatsoever to treat us professionally and so went inside asked once more, now agitated, who could help us, but they all started talking to each other like a flock of chicken. No-one even made an attempt to resolve it let alone say sorry for the experience. We went to another place. Placing this review after reading others this seems to be a pattern....

Went for food and drink. We were greeted by who I assume was the Maitre D. Sour faced and obviously put out that we wanted something toward the end of a service period. Being Australian my French is, at best passable for food and drink ordering ( but I at least attempted ) to greet him and request a table for two while explaining that une petit parlez Francais. Well that got a nose in the air reply from him. We eventually got ushered to a seat and waited... after 10 minutes of being ignored my wife went up and asked if somebody could take our order, to which he told her to sit down and somebody would be over. 2 more minutes and we stood up and left. On the way out I explained being ignored is not good hospitality to which he shrugged his shoulders and said loudly to the waiter " trois minute" which I promise it was not. Anyway walked down to Le Bikini and got an amazing service and meal and they recieved the 200 Euros cor two that this place...

Ah, le restaurant où tout va pour le mieux dans le pire des mondes ! Une réservation en terrasse ? Bien sûr, ils nous ont gentiment installés au fin fond du restaurant, là où même les plantes ne veulent pas pousser. Quand on a demandé à être placés sur la fameuse terrasse, on nous a fait comprendre que ce n’était même pas la peine d’y penser, la terrasse étant évidemment pleine (bien sûr, qui ne voudrait pas s’entasser là-bas ?).

Ensuite, une grande planche apéro à 29€ qui, à vue d’œil, aurait fait honte à un apéro dinatoire chez Mamie. Microscopique, insipide, un véritable chef-d'œuvre de minimalisme culinaire ! Nous avons dû supplier pour avoir du pain et de l'eau, car pourquoi les apporter spontanément, n'est-ce pas ?

Passons aux burgers, où la serveuse, dans son élan de clairvoyance, nous a lâché un "J'étais sûre que vous commanderiez ça." On attend toujours l’explication, peut-être que c'était un code secret pour « vous allez le regretter ». Et en effet, des burgers avec du pain cramé et de la viande crue, c’est une expérience gustative à laquelle nos papilles ne s’attendaient pas. Les boissons ? Elles ont décidé de faire leur apparition vers la fin du plat, accompagnées de gâteaux apéro, pour couronner le tout.

Et les desserts, parlons-en. Une brioche perdue, littéralement perdue, puisqu'il s’agissait en fait d’une tranche de pain de mie grillée avec un soupçon de caramel au beurre salé et une boule de glace en guise de lot de consolation. Les cafés liégeois ? Un chef-d'œuvre de chantilly industrielle, à ne pas manquer !

Le tout pour la modique somme de 261€ pour 4 cocktails, 1 entrée, 4 plats, 3 desserts, et 2 menus enfants. À ce prix-là, on aurait presque cru que la terrasse était en supplément ! Un rapport qualité-prix défiant toute concurrence, ou plutôt, défiant toute logique. Un grand merci pour cette soirée mémorable qui nous a fait sacrément rire, que nous ne manquerons pas d'oublier très rapidement.

PS : le cadre est sympa si vous n'êtes pas installé près...
