We stayed at the Au Lion d'Or after our first choice biker B&B locally was unavailable. The couple that run the hotel are lovely and very welcoming and the guy Dan speaks English which was a relief and helped. There is a garage at the rear which was the clincher as we were on a motorcycle trip although after day 1 I left the bike out front as the town is very quiet and the risk of theft looked very low. The room was basic but comfortable with en suite shower and toilet with towels provided but not shower gel or shampoo and French TV channels . There is a separate access entrance with a code which you get on your room key fob. There is not a 24hr reception hence the coded side entrance so ensure you book an arrival time.||||The restaurant serves great french food at extremely low prices. We paid more for a bottle of wine than for the three course set menu. There were no tea/coffee facilities in the room so if this is a must for you take a travel kettle etc or request it before you arrive maybe. The room was serviced every day while we were out and the hotel is clean through out. Breakfast is €6/pp and has to be pre arranged we decided to take it for the convenience although the centre of the town is only 100m away. The town is very sleepy with a handful of bars, cafes and restaurants but many close fairly early. No night life as such but this did not bother us.||||As a base to stay while you go on day trips/battlefield tours etc this is a great value hotel but if you want somewhere with things to do and plenty of night life the town is not for you. I would go back if only to see Dan and his wife again they are very friendly people and made our stay enjoyable and...

Read moreWe did not stay in this hotel but dined here when staying in the area.||||We were a large group so for simplicity we all chose from their set menu which was very reasonable (12 or 15 euros for all three course from memory)||||I had the House Pate to start, followed by the Chicken Suprise (a beer & pepper sauce) followed by the cheese board.||||The food was excellent quality and fantastic value for money.||||The staff were friendly and the service excellent cosidering there was about 20 of us!||||The only gripe our group had when we left was one of our members likes their steaks very well done but to be fair, it's nigh on impossible to get a Frenchman to cook a very well done steak!||The drink prices were a little on the expensive side also. I ordered a lager, two cokes and a cider. I should have guessed when the cider came out in a small sparkling wine bottle but just those four drinks were circa 25 euros!||||In short, her on down to Au Lion d'Or for an enjoyable, good value meal then head off to do your serious...
