La Marionnette — Restaurant in Avranches

As the only place open on a wet and cold Monday night in late October, we had no alternative but to eat here. The interior is simple but welcoming. We were quickly shown to a table, but then it was at least 10 minutes before we were given a menu, and told that there were no salads available. Seeing as the first page of the menu offered at least 6 salad options, and that is what I’d hoped to have, I was flummoxed. The waitress moved away without asking if we’d like a drink. It was another 10 minutes or so before anyone returned to take an order.

The food was very good when it arrived - I had the escalope de veau, and my partner had the ‘Etna’ pizza. We had a carafe of very passable Merlot with it.

The woman who came to clear our plates and offer desert was, I presume, the chef as she’d not been in evidence before that. She was lovely, efficient and friendly. Our deserts soon arrived, which were very good (creme brûlée and panacotta).

So … in conclusion, a good little place for the most part, sorely let down by the service. Whilst the waiter and waitress were nice, they appeared to be inexperienced and/or under trained. Being the only establishment open on Mondays, and therefore busy, I suggest increasing the staff on those nights to ensure customers aren’t left waiting so long, and giving...

Basic pizzas were tasty. The specialty pizza with white sauce, potatoes and Bacon had way too much Camembert cheese (I know is that ever a problem) so it was a soggy mess. Perfect for a relaxed evening meal with friends. We ordered a variety of pizzas, which were all freshly prepared and proved to be excellent. House wine was good, sold by the carafe.
