As the only place open on a wet and cold Monday night in late October, we had no alternative but to eat here. The interior is simple but welcoming. We were quickly shown to a table, but then it was at least 10 minutes before we were given a menu, and told that there were no salads available. Seeing as the first page of the menu offered at least 6 salad options, and that is what I’d hoped to have, I was flummoxed. The waitress moved away without asking if we’d like a drink. It was another 10 minutes or so before anyone returned to take an order.
The food was very good when it arrived - I had the escalope de veau, and my partner had the ‘Etna’ pizza. We had a carafe of very passable Merlot with it.
The woman who came to clear our plates and offer desert was, I presume, the chef as she’d not been in evidence before that. She was lovely, efficient and friendly. Our deserts soon arrived, which were very good (creme brûlée and panacotta).
So … in conclusion, a good little place for the most part, sorely let down by the service. Whilst the waiter and waitress were nice, they appeared to be inexperienced and/or under trained. Being the only establishment open on Mondays, and therefore busy, I suggest increasing the staff on those nights to ensure customers aren’t left waiting so long, and giving...
