We’ve really missed eating here… We regularly visited pre-covid and had been looking forward with enthusiasm to re-visiting as soon as able, which thankfully, we did recently.
In fact we visited twice, the first was for a music night on 21st June and the second was for lunch on the following Friday.
The music night was nothing short of superb. There were around 20 - 25 covers, a mixture of locals and non-locals, all of whom certainly seemed to be enjoying themselves.
The guest artiste was a chap by the name of Michel Bernabe’, a very able musician who’s multilingual and musical abilities kept everyone engaged throughout. As the evening progressed, many of the audience got to their feet to strut their stuff including Patrick and Sabine the proprietors - fantastic!
The food and wine flowed throughout and was greatly appreciated by all. It was intended to be fairly basic which it was but nevertheless absolutely lovely. The overall cost including a couple of bottles of Patrick’s excellent Envol red (pure nectar), as well as other drinks was for us just over E30 a head (4) - whilst excellent value for money in reality it wasn’t about the cost, it was about the ambience, quality and absolute genuineness of the event. A fantastic night spent with good friends and new friends in a superb, local, genuine atmosphere - highly recommended.
Hosts Sabine and Patrick deserve all the plaudits they get - superb!
So far as our visit on the following Friday lunchtime was concerned, this was very much a quieter affair. Just myself and my wife initially and then joined by a party of 4 and 2.
We went for the Plat du Jour offering which for me was a tomato and feta salad followed by a chorizo and tentacle (not sure just what’s tentacle) casserole whilst my wife opted for just a main of summer vegetables on polenta. The tomato salad was excellent and the casserole tasty, wholesome and hearty. The summer vegetables were light and flavoursome - perfect.
The total bill, including a 50 cl carafe of house red (again, excellent) as well as fruit juice came to just under E46 - fantastic quality and value for money.
A relaxed and convivial atmosphere - we will very definitely revisit when next in the area, hopefully September. Would highly, highly...
Read moreA unique and fabulous place. Inside, the tables are set in old wine tanks with residual crystals from the wines still sparkling on the walls. Sabine prepares food that always surprises and delights us. Every time we go there’s new flavours we’ve never had anywhere else. When it come to the wine….Patrick knows his stuff. Ask for a wine to go with the food that night and he will not only suggest a cracker but as an experienced vigneron, will be able to explain exactly why the wine suggested is...
Read moreWe were a group of 10, the weather was not too kind so we were not seated on the terrace but the big table in the indoor space at La Cave was perfect for us. Sabine kindly tailored a menu for us in advance, we had delicious food accompanied by a good selection of wines. A fun evening, merci Sabine...
