Terrible experience. My brother and I went to the restaurant at 730 for takeout, which the website lists is available. The body language of the chef was poor from the beginning. When they told us that takeout was not available, we asked if they could accommodate 11 people and he misinterpreted that we were asking for 11 pizzas. We clarified that we only wanted 4 pizzas and then the waitress said that they could accommodate and pointed to the two tables that were available. We explained that we would need to go back to the VRBO to round up our other 9 family members. That takes some time. Once we returned, an hour later, the body language was even worse. They clearly didn’t want us there. It’s too late to order pizza. There is no table available (even though the exact two tables were still empty). We offered to eat outside where only 1 table of 10 was taken. “But it’s too cold,” she insisted. “We are okay that it’s cool,” we replied. The chef was not happy that she was considering seating us inside. We were very kind to them and they were both very unkind and unwelcoming. That was the first time we have had such a bad experience like that in a French restaurant. When we decided to leave, they recommended another option that was closed. We went home, had some wine, fruit, and the kids had breakfast for dinner, and we used it as a teaching experience...
Read moreAwful service. Rude. Google states that Le Trot offers takeout, so we entered with a plan to order four pizzas and salads to takeout. But we were told when we arrived that “pizzas are only for customers eating in the restaurant”. We agreed to come back with our full party then and they said OK. When we returned 45 minutes later with the full family ready to dine, we were told no pizzas again (very rudely) because it was too late. I believe I also heard the chef say “rude Americans” as part of this exchange. This person doesn’t even know us. I’m sure we had language barriers also as our French is very poor so we relied on the English speaking waitress.
We did everything we could to be friendly, smile, say I bonjour and si vous plait and they never returned it. I’ve never been spoken to in a restaurant like this. Never gave a 1 star review before and every other restaurant in Normandy was very pleasant. Le Trot is a uniquely miserable place. Hopefully the chef was just having a very bad day and he is not usually like this. I recommend to...
Read moreWe stopped here for dinner because our Airbnb hosts recommended it. Now, I recommend a reservation. We stopped in at 1845 on a Monday without a reservation and it didn’t look promising. But the girl checked her book and found us a seat. I had the Pizza Chantilly and my wife had the Filet with risotto and the Crème brûlée. We were very pleased. The steak was much bigger than we expected and the pizza was very good. You can tell they use fresh ingredients and they prepare everything so well. We heartily recommend this wonderful little place. I think if I spoke French, I could’ve enjoyed the bantering between to boss and his friends at the bar. I think they were having a...
