We stayed in Le Dorat, with our friends, in a holiday home the first week in June. To be quite honest we were heading for the Irish restaurant across the road, having enjoyed our meal there a couple of nights previously, however it was closed. We crossed the road to have a look at the menus outside the hotel and decided to go inside.||We were not too sure about the place when we got inside but were shown into a pleasant enough restaurant with a couple of tables already occupied . ||We had apperatifs whilst looking at the plat d' jour.||Melon filled with port was my choice of starter,my husband had a beautiful fish pate whilst our friends both chose the terrine and we all enjoyed these.||For mains my husband went for a fillet of a white fish, I think it was called Julienne , the rest of us ordered steaks which arrived rather more "rare" than the "medium rare" requested but were tender and tasty as were the frites and salads.||Feeling pretty full but we still went for the deserts ; 2 Strawberry Sundaes, 1 fresh fruit selection with puff pastry and cream and a 1 selection of cheeses. The meal was rounded off with 4 coffees and chocolates.||We all enjoyed the evening...

Le Dorat is a pleasant town, with what appears to be a thriving ex pat community (fish & chip van visited the town square on Friday night!!) & lovely surrounding countryside!||This guest house however was very disappointing, the restaurant, whilst open, had no patrons, & looking at the general ambience of the place, easy to see why!!||The room was OKish, but entered through the noisiest door I've ever heard, and through an area of corridor that was clearly undergoing some kind of re decoration!||No staff whatsoever were on duty at breakfast, guests helped themselves from a very inadequate buffet, prepared by the staff the previous evening!!||Just a short work away is the vastly superior Maison Lapeyriere, we learn from experience & will know where to stay...
