We stayed here for two nights in June and were not overly impressed with the accommodation. Admittedly, the only reason we stayed here was because it was the cheapest lodging in the area at EUR80p/n. It is an old ski lodge with double and shared dorm rooms over three levels. The building is old, cluttered and in need of repair/renovation. The staff were generally friendly but not particularly helpful nor did they go out of their way to help us in anyway.||||Basic things they had wrong: no heating in the rooms. It was June but it still gets close to zero degrees centigrade overnight. The room was very cold. The shower in the room is hilariously small and doesn't work all that well. The mattress was poor, sagged in the middle and I suspect that it could be as old as the building. No toilets in the rooms, but this was made clear when we booked in. The place was very dusty and needs a good clean out. Our rooms were not serviced during our stay, i.e. we had to make our bed etc. this is fine but it again shows that the was little in the way of any type of extra services. The place lacked any focus on the one percent items that make all the difference to a successful stay.||||Overall, the common area was untidy, papers on tables, breakfast platters left out for hours, drills and tools scattered around the living area - not a good look even if it is low season. ||||If you're looking for an old school ski lodge with 1960's charm and a reasonable price then this could be for you, but I generally recommend that during the summer months there are better places in the area to stay.||||Be aware, from St Gervais (where the train station is), it is a 40euro taxi fare to St Nicholas. The shuttle bus does not run in the summer months. There are a couple of basic shops in St Nicholas and very limited food options. The next village is a 30...

Read moreFirst let's be honest about the situation: 4 guys looking for a cheap place to stay to be out skiing all day, just asking for a decent breakfast and an occasional dinner here or elsewhere. |Well the weather was really bad, rain, melting snow,..... So we had to spent more time inside than we planned. Which put us also in a more critical mindset.|Breakfast: Good coffee, lousy coco, very old fashioned French. Bread, jam, butter, yoghurt. But hey, we are in France, right?|Dinner: acceptable though a little expensive - old French cuisine, but hey, we are in France, right? Dinner place somewhat outdated.|Rooms: chalet style somewhere between the 50's and the 60's. Beds ok. Not all rooms have toilets, so a night stroll on the squeaking corridor is an extra event for yourself and the neighbors. Talking about the neighbors....Mind your conversation and other nocturnal activities, cause the walls are just decorations. Shower and bathroom very primitive. But the award of going back in time definitely goes to the fixed carpet. Better bring slippers!|Service: well, remember going to France in the 70s when the waiter, owner,..... Just wanted to make you feel that you were in France and you'd better get used to being made clear who were the most funny, impolite and dominant people in the world. Well, here's the last specimen. Worth visiting! Just for anthropological sakes. |By the way, she has a beautiful dog - really - who is the absolute number one guest in the hotel - make no mistakes!|Pricing: overpriced for the quality of the product, but value for money for the time travel experience.|Skiing: great area, when snow. Lift at 200 meter...
