La Guinguette des Chavants — Restaurant in Bonneville

We went to Parc de Merlet and didn’t want to eat at the Balcon there but wanted to have nature around us with a terrace and better food. This place has a small menu but it is well done. We had the tarte and salad and the Guinguette salad. We also ordered a local beer - IPA and a white wine also from the region. The beer was light and flavorful and sans gluten! Should have ordered 2 of those. We followed the mains with the limoncello tiramisu (which came with its shot glass of limoncello to pour over) and espresso to end our wonderful lunch. The food was wonderfully fresh and flavorful and healthy. The service was super friendly and quick. Lorsque l’on parvient à cette guinguette, le pas ralentit de lui-même. On se croirait dans une toile de Monet, qui aurait sûrement troqué son Déjeuner sur l’herbe contre un déjeuner à la guinguette s'il l'avait pu, au bord de ce monde paisible. Délaissant les nymphéas de Giverny, il aurait sans doute fait danser sa palette sur ces reflets montagnards, peignant ce coin de bois suspendu entre l’eau et le ciel.

La cuisine ici ne joue pas les effets : elle parle avec sincérité, comme un hôte qui vous reçoit chez lui. Chaque plat semble né du lieu, comme s’il en prolongeait la beauté. L’ardoise du chef, sans excès ni prétention, m’a offert un farçon savoyard d’une tendresse rare, hommage rustique à la vallée qui l’entoure.

C’est une cuisine qui ne flatte pas : elle touche. Au ventre, d’abord — généreuse, chaude, rassurante — mais aussi au cœur, parce qu’elle semble venir du même amour que celui qui a choisi de planter ici une table et quelques planches, face...
