The Hungry RoadThe Hungry Road
(Last visited 7/6/2021.) Working in Bordeaux, France for a couple of weeks and it's time for my first meal here! After hours of flying, a bit of jet-lag, a long nap and lots of water its time to venture out! Atmosphere/Appearance: So we wandered to this section of Bordeaux that had a few restaurants in the area, parked the car on the street and walked around looking for something to catch our eye. We did notice that France operates on a much later time schedule than what we were used to in the United States. Many of the restaurants didn't even open until 7:00pm. MY KIND OF PLACE! Lol. So we ran into Le Soufflet and decided to give it a whirl! Our server was really sweet, spoke great English and made sure that we felt welcomed. The restaurant is small, like most that've I've seen in France and that adds to the personality of it. I loved that aspect of this place. Out the back of the restaurant was a little, almost like a "garden" area where you could sit outside, but within the confines of the restaurant. It felt like another room, but with the roof missing. Lol. Service: Our server was really sweet, spoke great English and made sure that we felt welcomed. She was quick and just what we needed to feel welcomed to this part of the world. Food: So I started off with the goat cheese salad and what came out was HEAVENLY. It was nothing like I expected and far exceeded what I thought I was looking forward to! Lol. So picture this... 2 slices of toast on either ends of the elliptical plate each then covered with huge dollops of goat cheese. Then in between those individual slices is the salad. Let me tell you. That goat cheese toast was EXCELLENT. Savory, a lil' sweet, definitely goat cheesy and just incredible. Oh, the salad was good too! Lol. For my entrée I went with the duck breast. It was so succulent and tender. The sauce was warm, a bit creamy, delicious and a great complement to the medium-rare meat. The side of potatoes were crispy and a great starch to break up the meaty bites. Value: My goat cheese salad was €10.00 and well worth it. My duck breast with potatoes was only €16.50! Are you serious?! That meal would've easily been $30.00 in the states and to be honest, I would've paid that! That's how good it was. In conclusion, I absolutely loved this place and definitely wanted to come back here before I left Bordeaux, but there were so many other restaurants to check out while in the area, but this was one of my favorites throughout the entire trip.
