We used Le Laurier (Part of Logis Group) on our return journey from France to the UK. We deliberately selected the hotel as it sits within the Sancerre wine region and I fancied stocking up on the way home. There was initially some confusion over our reservation but it was eventually sorted out and we were allocated room "Citron" which was very clean with an exceptionally comfortable bed and good quality linen. The room overlooked the road and contrary to other reviews, we heard absolutely no noise throughout our stay. We ate in the restaurant for dinner and what a delightful experience it was - spotlessly clean, tables beautifully adorned with white table cloths and good quality crockery, cutlery and glassware. The menu of the day for 25 euros was quite exceptional - my wife opting for egg mayonnaise to start (excellent) and I chose the pate en croute, again very nice. For mains she had grilled salmon and me the grilled steak - which arrived a little too rare for me but was quickly corrected to my taste. I can't recall the desserts but the Sancerre from a local vigneron at 23 euros was absolutely delicious - so much so that we sought out the producer and purchased a few bottles for home the next day. The establishment is run by a mother and her son - in the evening she cooks and he is front of house. The room was 67 euros and the meal with wine was about 80 euros for two. We love this hotel and restaurant and will certainly return on future...

Read moreWe stayed over for two nights on our way to the south of France. The hotel is situated in the centre of Saint Satur, a small town a few km away from Sancerre and just uphill from the Loire. Being in the centre of town posed two problems, firstly, the parking is difficult, on street only with no reserved spaces, we were lucky and had the last space on two occasions but don't count on luck. Secondly the hotel is on road that looks quiet, but isn't, with traffic virtually all night and lots of doors slamming very early in the mornings. The bedrooms we had (2 at €78 per night each) both overlooked the street and I don't believe there were alternatives. On this basis alone I couldn't recommend staying. The dinner, served in the large formal dining room is quite another matter and well worth exploring with the cheapest menu starting at €25 it is good value, beautifully presented and served with style. Going 'off piste' is a little more expensive but the terrine de Lapin (€9.80) and the St Jacques (€22) were among the best I have had anywhere.||In summary, stay elsewhere and eat here if you can find a parking space.||The hosts were very congenial although their English is more limited than my...
