Superb! The best (and the least expensive) meal I have eaten since we arrived in France 5 weeks ago.
Sailing north through the Chenal du Four yesterday we decided in rough conditions to put into L'Aberildut instead of making it to L'Abervrac'h as is our wont. Ashore for lunch today was enough to make this my Port of preference every time.
My wife's birthday lunch at l'Abri Cotier commenced with a help-yourself buffet starter including a selection of crab, langoustines, fish and meat pates, cold meats and salads which washed down with a half litre of Muscadet was a meal in itself. We chose as our main course a good-sized pollack steak in a rich creamy sauce which was accompanied by tiny new potatoes in their skins and a colourful selection of shredded vegetables - all delicious with the fish lightly poached to perfection instead of the usual dry and overcooked specimens that often arrive on one's dish either at home or abroad. Desserts in France are often a disappointment, but here the "mousse exotique " was clearly homemade and topped with fresh fruit.
Although the Muscadet and coffee were extra (both sensibly and modestly priced) the entire lunch was priced at 12.80 Euros each.
Amazing! We hope to sail back across the Channel for lunch in L'Aberildut again...

We booked ahead but when we arrived at 12:45 we were put at a small table in second file close to another table so that we were almost sitting shoulder to shoulder with another couple. Unfortunately the woman only stopped talking to put food in her mouth. A most annoying experience that could have been avoided if they had actually reserved a table for us. At a restaurant on the seashore one would expect to find seafood but they offer only a "formula" with a fixed price and a limited menu. The main course was a choice of veal or chicken! The veal turned out to be a sort of mini stuffed roasted roll and potato chips; sort of factory canteen food. The only seafood was crab, prawns, and some molluscs in the buffet antipasto. By the time we got there we found that the 2 people ahead of us had taken 4 plates loaded high, and there was no crab left. When we asked if there was more crab we were told that it was finished. Imagine our surprise when we went to pay the bill and noticed a new tray of crab had appeared. Naturally we commented but did not get an apology. Read moreBonjour deux mots pour resumer: archi nul , Un scandal .passez votre chemin Le 31 /7 a 14 h en famille nous nous rendons dans ce restaurant afin de deguster des fruits de mer car nous sommes en bretagne ca parait incontournable. Mais pas la bas!!!!!! Outre le fait que c etait mauvais , froid , long et cher!!!!!!! Et que ca n a rien a voir avec les produits locaux et frais.... l accueil est deplorable .notamment une des serveuse, qui devrait vite changer de metier. On nous installe on commande l apero (a 7 ).30 mn apres toujours rien .au bout de 45 mn elle arrive avec les plats.on lui signale que ns n avons pas eut l apero , sa reponse : ba l apero on oublie!" Ba non babache!!!!! Alors elle leve les yeux au ciel et soupire et nous demande si elle doit reprendre les plats? Ba un peu on va pas bouffer froid....sa collegue arrive et nous sers les 3 aperos.pour le reste ba faut deviner quil ny a plus de whyski alors que ca ete commande 1 h plutot et que personne nous informe quils sont a court... Bref la serveuse se permet d dtre desagreable, entre soupires et le " bon c est fini l apero la!..." Et sa phrase culte quand on lui demande si les moules sont servit avec accompagnement" ba jallais pas les prendre sur ma tete!" Un vrai scandale....tout ca biensur apres nous avoir installe , damande quel aperitif on voulait et nous dire que :" ya plus que frites et lard ou boeuf carottes,ou rougail saucisses, et que si ca peut nous faire plaisir on peut avoir des moules" Tout ca en bretagne!!!!!!!! Vraiment j ai perdu mon temps et mon argent cette serveuse a gache notre repas en famille.nous sommes partis sans prendre les desserts prevu dans les menus, sans cafe et sans apprecier pour vite sortir de ce pseudo resto. Je n ai jamais vu un service aussi long, desagreable , bacle , soupirant et vraiment pas bon.et des moules rechauffe au micro onde sans herbes ni legumes.aucun gout.du chewing gum. Ms le pompom c est quand meme la serveuse qui doit vraiment prendre un traitement...
