We stayed two nights for a nearby wedding. We had dinner the first night on the terrace, which was lovely. You can have a single course or a choice of two menus. Being in the centre of one of the world's great wine producing regions, I thought the wine was over-priced, starting at about 24€ and on average about 35€ a bottle. The restaurant is very popular with the locals. Reviewing the room is a tricky one. It was cheap, no doubt, but that shouldn't mean one has to put up with: a loo off the bedroom only just big enough to physically get into (knees touching the closed door) and completely unventilated; a "shower room" with a virtually unusable basin (didn't hold water and was the size of an eyebath) and general grottiness around the edges of the tiles and floor. The light over my wife's bed refused to work, so the owner provided a separate bedside lamp, which was OK. However, the non-working light decided to intermittently work during the night and flashed on and off. Switching on and off didn't make any difference and I didn't want to take the bulb out as the fitting was all metal and I wanted to go to the wedding alive. The blankets on the bed were wildly different colours (turquoise and orange) - it's that sort of place. But it is cheap. Personally, if the option had been there to pay double and get a better standard of accommodation, I would have grabbed it, but it was handy for the wedding (which we did make, alive). Relatives were staying in other rooms and they were just the same. The hotel does have a nice little...
Read moreAt a recent family wedding in Provence, we had the pleasure of staying a few nights at the Hotel-Restaurant Au Bien Etre. The hospitality shown by the hosts, Florence and Sylvain was a very high standard and the relaxed, friendly atmosphere they created matched well with the style and feel of the Villecroze region.||We had dinner at their restaurant which was also a highlight. Florence provided an outstanding menu selection of 3 courses based on local food matched with local wines. Sylvain and Max provided excellent service for the guests. The night we were there was busy with a combination of house guests and local residents, always a good sign. Be sure to finish the meal with a house digestive.||If we ever get back to their region,...
Read moreWe booked here for one night while visiting the Gorges du Verdon. It was a bit far away but we would have missed the waterfall and cave (Grottes) if we went elsewhere.||The room was OK for size for the family but not the best place we have stayed in our two week holiday. Only the main building has wifi access. ||||The breakfast was very disappointing with homemade rolls which were hard and stale and stale croissants which you don't expect in France. We only stayed one night in the end and then went to Grasse which...
